We have had to have a brake job about once a year since buying the Oddessey new in 2005. After the warranty expired, some shops replaced calipers and/or rotors, at great expense to me; I now think I was robbed by them, because when I finally found my present shop, that has never been needed. However, the brakes still grind a few months after new pads are installed, but this mechanic says there is no functional problem, saying that outer rim ridges on the discs MAY be causing the noise, even though there is plenty of pad left. Now, because I thought the noise was inconsequential, a sticky piston has caused a rear brake to wear down to the metal, this time creating a genuine need for replacement.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Just 18 months after I bought this vehicle, the brakes made a screechy noise when applied. Especially the rear ones. When I went to the dealer, they said the brakes and the rotors are rusted badly and replaced ALL the four brake pads and rotors.

I complained about that the brakes had a grinding sound when I come to a stop the last 3 oil changes. The last oil change they told me that I had 90% brakes left, after 5000 miles my brakes were now shot.

All four brake pads cracked. I reported the brakes "groaned" when the vehicle had only 5,000 miles on it and Honda said there was no problem. Noise continued although brakes seemed to work fine. I finally went to midas to have repairs done as Honda does not warranty brakes past 11,000 miles.

Honda does warranty their brakes for the first 11,000 miles and my car was under this mileage. I was very happy with Honda's service because they took care of this matter immediately. However, I did have to wait a week for the parts to come in. Honda claimed, at the time (June 2006), its Honda Odyssey brakes were being recalled, because of so many complaints about defective brakes, as well as noise. They installed the new brakes and had to resurface my pads (my opinion, I think they should replaced those also). I am here to make 2005 Honda Odyssey owners aware of this problem. I have yet to receive or hear of any brake recall notice. I think Honda is just trying to get away with this, so they only have to replace those who come in and complain about the problem personally.
