I have had the powersteering pump and steering rack replace in the last 2 years costing $2500, no questions asked. Brought it in again because the steering has become tight again. They said it is out of warranty and will not assist. How can the expectations be that something like this and the cost related can occur in 2 years and be ok? I just don't get it. I had to fuss abit and mention a friend that has had the same issue at the same time and they received assistance. Service said they would contact the district manager to see if they are willing to offer assistance but he said since my vehicle has over 70k miles (has 73355) they are more likely to say no. So you are telling me, that when you product reaches 70k miles you are not willing to stand behind your product? Sound to me as if you they don't believe in thier own product. Makes we wonder if I should purchase a Honda again.

Similar to the other logs. Bought the car with 82K Km from a Honda dealer in Smith Falls. All was well but at 115K the steering started to stiffen. Recalled at this point that the dealer had mentioned that they had already replaced the power steering pump for the previous owner once already. The car drives well but when you drive into a car park, slow right down as you line up for the parking space, the steering suddenly behaves as if you have NO power steering. Talked to Hunt Club Honda, Ottawa, who could only suggest that the power steering pump and reservoir be changed for C$750+tax. I think thats odd for a 4 year old car and a Honda at that, that you go through 2 steering pumps. Clearly there is a problem. However, Honda Canada was not even interested in listening to the issue.

My van steering was becoming hard to turn day by day. Also, after driving on the highway, it starting giving a weird noise when steering was turned. One of our relatives had similar problem when we went to kelowna. They checked with dealership and were told that seering pump is faulty. They ended up paying ~$2000 for emergency fixup.

Last week I went to T&T honda in Calgary to get it fixed. They told me that this is the problem with lot of honda vans and they have fixed 3 this week. When I asked why honda is not fixing this. No answer. Cost to fix was $750 which was covered by my extended warranty.

I brought my vehicle to dealer for flooding the power steering wheel fluid, but the problem could not be fixed. It's so difficult to turn now. The Honda dealer consultant told me that the problem may be with pump or rack, but the cost for replacing them is so expensive. I can't afford to pay for it. so I am here to have everyone's advice. Please tell me your experience with the problem. If anyone knows how the fix the problem with the lowest cost possible, please give me an advice. Thank you very much for your help and support.

My Odyssey had a little over 47.000 miles when the power steering started going down to zero when trying to park or to back out of the garage. Any slow speed steering is very difficult for me, and is almost impossible for my wife. I am in the process of researching this problem and what I have found so far is that if you have a Honda dealer install a new pump it is likely to fail in 20,000 to 30,000 miles, which helps the dealer and Honda. I am going to try to find an after market pump and it will not be installed by a Honda dealer.

This is my first and last Honda, I have owned Dodge and Chrysler vans that have given me better service up to over 100,000 miles. Anyone with a suggestion on fixing the problem is welcomed.

I am certain that it will eventually become necessary to replace my steering pump and it annoys me because of the relatively low mileage on my vehicle. At present, the problem consists of very stiff steering while parking or traveling at low speeds. I visited the dealership and was told that they would be glad to diagnose the problem for $138. I went to my regular mechanic who examined my car, went on line to investigate possible problems and then told me that in all likely hood it was the steering pump....he did this for free.

I called the Honda Corporate office and was told that they haven't had a problem with this and since I was beyond warranty there wasn't anything they could do. I have always thought that Honda was more reputable than that and this did not seem very Honda-like. At 64k miles they could have offered me a discount on a new steering pump, at least. ...it is priced at about $400. and rest assured they will get $400. of bad advertising from me.

My important question here is whether or not anyone out there has heard of a sudden loss of steering resulting in an accident. This is a great concern of mine.

I took my car for 30K service at Hayward Honda, CA. I mentioned to them about stiffness in my steering, it thought it could be because of low tyre pressure. Over period of 2 months my hands started to feel the heavy ness of the steering and started to cause some pain. I mentioned it to the service rep.

Surprisingly, they call me and reported my steering stiffness is due to :

SEEMS POWER STEERING PUMP PRESSURE RELIEF MAY NOT BE RELEASING.

they REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP WITH NEW HONDA UNIT.

I was told tht though i had 34K miles on the car since i had purchased it on 29th Nov 2005, it was not in warranty and i had not purchased Extended warranty.

I had bought Honda Odyssey for piece of mind, i feel i should have bought a Dodge Caravan and it could be wel worth it as it was 11K cheaper????
