overly sensitive accelerator pedal causing surging overly sensitive accelerator pedal causing surging overly sensitive accelerator pedal causing surging overly sensitive accelerator pedal causing surging overly sensitive accelerator pedal causing surging overly sensitive accelerator pedal causing surging

With engine running but in ‘P’ I slowly press the accelerator pedal to increase the engine Revolutions Per Minute(RPM), the engine will all off a sudden spike in RPM. Going from idle RPM to 3000RPM. While trying to drive the car at a constant speed, like 40kph, this spike in RPM won’t let you maintain a constant speed because the throttle in the engine is open too wide. It will either be accelerating or decelerating (on/off) causing jerk/surging when trying to maintain this speed.

I have attached a scanner and can confirm the Throttle Position Sensor(TPS) is not in sync with the Accelerator Pedal(AP). With the engine running and in ‘P’ I press the AP to about 1%, this will cause the TPS to go to 10%. With the engine OFF but ignition ON and I press the AP, the TPS is closely in sync. 4%AP = 5%TPS. 10%AP = 10%TPS

It seems like the ECM is trying to start accelerator movement from the TSP resting position of 8.6% and not ~3.5% that it uses to control idle.

This problem is affecting older Accent models and it seems similar to issues described with other Hyundai/Kia models.
