When the cruise control is on the set and cancel buttons on the steering wheel don't work more than half the time, this is a dangerous issue so there needs to be a recall tsb for this as a quick google search showed this is a widespread issue on the Hyundai Sonata

The cruise control malfunctions while the car is in motion. When you engage the steering wheel controls it may stay on even though you push cancel., if you push the reduce speed button, it may cancel cruise control, speed it up, or reduce speed. When this occurs, to get the car to disengage the cruse control you must engage the breaks.

The brake pedal and accelerator pedal are so close together as to interfere with each other. Specifically, as one comes to a stop, the brake pedal is so close to the accelerator both laterally and vertically, that the operators foot may hit both pedals at the same time just before coming to a stop, causing an unintended sudden acceleration. This is a significant safety issue for the driver, occupants, pedestrians and other vehicles or items in the path of the car. I have has 4 such incidents, one involving a rear end bump. The Hyundai dealer inspected the car for sudden acceleration and found nothing and dismissed the concern. Hyundai customer care representative erin thompson stated " I did not design the car, it operates as designed and there is nothing I can do for you". further, she stated "I will not say it again" when I tried to offer clarification of the issue. I believe this problem is a fundamental design defect in the car and violates the implied warranty of freedom of design and manufacturing defects and fitness of purpose. It may also not meet federal specifications for ergonomic considerations. Can you help? thank you the consumer requested a copy of the examiner's report.

The cruise control malfunctions, when you press the steering wheel controls it may stay on even though you hit cancel. If you hit the reduce speed button, it may cancel cruise control, speed it up, or reduce speed. Also, the airbag deployed notification randomly turns on. It appears that some wiring running on the top middle of the steering wheel, directly under the airbag, is crowded or just malfunctioning. This happens when the vehicle is in motion while attempting to set or engage the cruise control.

While driving the car on a highway in the passing lane, I abruptly received a warning of "hybrid emergency safely pull off road" "do not drive". I had no other warnings and the car gave me no time to pull off the road and it just shut down. The car would not start again and I was stuck in the passing lane on a very busy highway.

Car loses power when going into a turn and when driving long distance on open high way, sometimes it's like the car is applying breaks by it self, then just takes off like you have your foot full force on the gas puddle. Break lights and head lights go out every two months.

I was driving home from work on the highway, and approximately 40 minutes into the ride the car struggled to accelerate while I was driving on the highway at about 65-70mph without a warning light or any type of warning display on the dashboard. The car hesitated when I put my foot on the gas to pass another car, or if I slowed down in traffic, it struggled to accelerate above 20 - 40mph. When I reached my exit, and came to a stop light, the gas pedal was all the way to the floor just so I could get up enough speed to go across the light, as well as accelerate so the car in back on me could go as well. The engine would hesitate, and when it did finally reach the right speed it was still not a smooth ride. When I reached my destination, I turned the car off, and turned it back on about 2 hrs later. The car started (with a little hesitation in the engine), although it still struggled to accelerate past 20mph. It was also hesitating, and felt as though it would stall. I drove the car to my mechanic, about a 15 minute trip on local roads. There were a couple of uphill battles, where I could barely get the car up the hill. My mechanic checked to see if there were any codes from the computer, and the code came back as 'turbo under-boost'. the turbo charge is dead. I have a turbo charged engine. Therefore, since the turbo booster is dead, it basically leaves the engine without little power!

On April 18, 2016, while pulling into a handicapped parking spot, I was almost parked when the engine started roaring like it was revved up. My car went over the parking barrier and up the handicapped pole and over on hood of the car in front of me. I have been with my insurance company 39 years and I have never had an accident. I am a very safe driver. I am a truthful and responsible person.

Pulled into a parking space with foot on brake, I had not put the car into 'park" yet and it accelerated and jumped the curb and crashed into a tree. Air bags did not deploy. The engine raced. A witness saw it/heard it happen and stayed until police arrived. She did provide her phone number for verification. The accident caused $8300. Damage. The repair shop would have totaled the car if the airbags deployed but they did not. Attached are pictures of the damage and the police report. This is the fourth Hyundai car we have purchased and not question the safety of their vehicles.

On December 9, 2015 I was on route 9 driving South, the speed limit is 40 mph, I applied the brake, as a school bus was stopped in front of me to drop off a child, the accelerator was racing, I kept pushing on the brake and the car finally stopped. I was a few inches from the back of the bus. Fortunately no accident. Then on December 24, 2015, I was pulling into a parking lot applying the brake and again the car accelerator was going so fast, I picked my foot up and slammed it on the brake and the car would not stop.the car sounded like it was going to take off, it was racing so fast. I put the gear into neutral and the car rolled another half a car length into a lane but fortunately no one was there. Again no accident but it scared the you know what out of me. I took the car to the dealer the following Monday and they hooked it up to the computer and road tested it and told me everything was fine and nothing was wrong. I started raising my voice and told him you are [xxx] lucky I wasn't in an accident. But I am afraid to drive this car. It only has 30,000 miles on it. The consumer stated the sporadic acceleration occurred 7 times. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The failure dates are 12/15/2015, 12/28/2015, 1/16/16, 4/18/16, 6/24/16, 6/30/16, and 7/9/16. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

The contact had to drive the vehicle around and repeatedly depressed the brake pedal in order for the vehicle to stop. The vehicle stopped and the ignition was turned to the off position, but the interior lights illuminated continuously. The contact turned the ignition back to the on position in order to call for roadside assistance. The brake pedal was positioned differently. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired.
