My fuel filler door opener is not working. Hyundai has this recall for other vehicles but not for my model and year, this is clearly something wrong with their product and the want me to pay up to $500 in parts and labor?

Whenever I accelerate on the highway my engine would rev to a high RPM with a delayed reaction in order to get the car accelerated. Also, whenever I slow down my car for a stop light or stop sign, my engine would rev to a high RPM to slow down my car. I asked the Hyundai dealerships, they said the everything is okay, however I can tell right away there's a difference with my 2015 Hyundai Sonata vs my girlfriends 2015 Hyundai Sonata, exactly the same year and model and trim, but the drive is totally different. Also, I can also tell because the mpg on my car is far lower than my girlfriends. And she has a heavy foot on the gas petal. It doesn't make sense. The Hyundai dealership also reset the computer of the car, but no difference.

1) gas tank never takes more than 15 gallons of gas when the gas tank was supposed to hold 18 gallons. One day the fuel computer showed the range as 15 miles and the gas tank still took only 15 gallons from the pump even when the car gets a mileage of more than 30 mpg. Also, the pump abruptly stops in between and I have to restart pumping the fuel. This is either a fuel guage problem showing the gas tank is nearly empty when its really not or a gas tank problem. Online research indicates that multiple people have this problem. 2) the adaptive cruise control is really jerky and slams the breaks suddenly and accelerates abruptly resulting in a very jerky ride.

On Dec, .21st, 2017 I entered a business parking lot at low speed as one would enter a parking lot and within a few feet turned right to enter an aisle between 2 rows of parked cars. At the second right I had my foot on the brake to slow but realized my car was not slowing, maybe even accelerating and then, horrified, realized my efforts to slow or stop were futile! I swerved to miss a person and fishtailed hitting a bumper of an unoccupied car. By then I was nearly T-bone to many cars on a busy street. Still not able to stop I made an abrupt turn to the right and was fortunate (yes, fortunate) to hit a retaining wall around business signs in order to stop the car. Thru these frantic very few seconds as I was trying to stop, my foot was on the brake, I couldn't pump it as one would expect to do and the vehicle seemed to be accelerating. My choice came down to hit many occupied cars on the street or turn and hit the retaining wall. Again, how fortunate it was there!! airbags didn't deploy; the car is a total loss. This is a very frightening experience. Could it be that other drivers of the Hyundai 2015 Sonata have not lived to tell what happened?

Sonata

  • 65,000 miles
My Sonata has started stalling and shutting down without warning. The first time it happed was Dec 12th. I just finished accelerating from about 35mph to 60mph. There the vehicle made a loud thump and the engine shut down. Seconds later I lost power steering, dash lights, and headlights. The car restarted without issue. The same problem happened on Dec. 16th while traveling at a constant 30mph. I experienced the same symptoms as before, except the vehicle did not shake or create a loud noise before shutting down. Mileage was at 75980. Temperature was in the 20's. I took the car do the dealership and they could not find anything wrong or recreate the problem. The third time this has happened was Dec 29th. I was traveling at 20mph and coasting to a stoplight. It was 19 deg outside and the mileage was around 76800. So far the car has not shut off when the weather is above freezing. Lower temps might be contributing to the problem but not likely to be the primary cause. In all cases the car was at operating temp and was running for more then 30 min. It has not yet shut off while accelerating. Only maintaining speed or coasting. About a two months ago the dealer did a software update on the vehicle due to a claimed recall. The issue started about 2-3 weeks later this is definitely a safety issue since it happens without warning. I did find some other complaints similar to this while searching.

1. cruise control is jerky and rough on acceleration and deceleration 2. main issue I have with this car is that the fuel gauge is incredibly inaccurate. If it reads at 1/8 tank, I can only put in 12-13 gallons. Each "tick" mark on the gauge value ranges from about 9 miles to 63 miles despite the fact that it regularly gets 32+ mpg combined city/highway. When I complained to the dealership (I bought it used) they replaced the vaccuum cylinder, which helped with filling the tank (it would previously just shut off mysteriously during fill-ups) but then the gas gauge measured even worse. The "range" as calculated by the car's computer is always very low and drops off precipitously even though I know (by the trip meter) that I haven't gone far enough to have used as much gas as it would appear. Despite the obvious flaws of the gauge, the codes still read that it is working "normally" and to have it covered by the warranty, I have to experience a complete failure of the fuel sending units, I.e. catastrophic break down. I would like to have them replaced before it gets to that point.

The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and shut down. The vehicle was restarted after a few minutes, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (advantage Hyundai, hickaville, New York) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The fuel pump was replaced, but the failure recurred ten days later. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer, but the cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not call the contact back. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 87,075.

Car looses power for a few seconds while driving after accelerating. On local road at 35mph and on highway at 65mph. This occurred following a service recall for this issue. Campaign T1H and and campaign 150 vcm inspect or replacement and ECM upgrade. Started happening as a very short incident so I did not realize what was happening. Recently episodes were a few seconds long so I could determine what happened. Multiple times.

Shortly after exiting interstate and slowdown for signal, I attempted to accelerate and the vehicle was totally unresponsive, like I wasn't even giving it gas. I have had it serviced twice and towed once for stalling while driving, shuddering, sputtering. Took waiting and numerous attempts to get it restarted. The second time, the dealer kept it for a week in October and could not find anything. (this is my second complaint as I want all this documented). Doesn't mean it doesn't exist. They replaced the fuel pump. I just drove it back from out of town this weekend (300 miles) and I noticed the acceleration was quite sluggish especially when trying to accelerate to pass. It was like the passing gear would not engage. Afraid my car would just stall again, I did not pursue heavy acceleration or passing gear attempts any further. Then this happened today. I feel there is something definitely wrong with this vehicle, and that every time I drive it, I am at some kind of risk. Saw some other complaints about ECM. The problem needs to be identified and corrected; this is definitely a safety issue, especially at high speeds or heavy traffic. There is definitely something wrong here.

1st event June 10 2016 - car stopped on the fwy at speed over 65 mph. Stepped on the gas pedal and was no power. Attempt to restart and car run rough. Car towed to dealer (tuttle click-Hyundai -irvine, ca.) 2nd event July 18 2016 - driving on fwy at speeds over 65 mph, gas pedal starts vibrating, driving become rough, clicking noise from engine when idling. File complain with dealer, dealer say it did not find anything, blame the situation to costco gas, and it says that the car requires to use different type of gas (such: Chevron, shell).

Driving at 75mph on I-77 northbound near charlotte, (lake norman) when suddenly the engine died. Traffic was heavy but thankfully I was able to coast to a narrow shoulder. Cars were coming within 2 feet of my car so my wife and I exited the vehicle and ran up an embankment to get out of harms way. Police and a tow truck arrived and took the car to lake norman Hyundai where a faulty fuel pump was diagnosed. The repair took two days since the part had to be ordered. The incident was harrowing and could have been tragic for both of us. The car was a little over one year old with just over 15,000 miles. Hyundai motors has been contacted but I get nowhere with the company. I am now concerned about the possibility of this recurring to my vehicle or someone else.

  • 44,000 miles
I purchased a used 2015 Hyundai Sonata with 43K miles. I have had it for three months with minor problems such as sluggish acceleration, hard deceleration when removing foot from gas pedal, and a noisy engine. However, on 4-8-2016 at about 7:30 am, I was attempting a left turn on a busy metropolitan street when the 2015 Hyundai Sonata shut down suddenly, completely turned off! all the warning lights on the dash lit up like a christmas tree and then went dead. The 2015 Sonata came to a stop, and there was a truck approaching at a high speed rate that had to swerve around me to prevent a collision with me. I was lucky the driver was paying attention. This problem is very dangerous and it is just a matter of time before someone is killed due to this problem, which seems to be occurring in many 2015 Hyundai Sonata vehicles. I believe Hyundai must know about this and Hyundai probably knows what is causing this safety issue with the 2015 Sonata. Hyundai or NHTSA need to recall the 2015 Hyundai Sonata vehicles asap!! if nothing else tell the owners what the problem is so that they can repair it on their own dime!

On 3 separate occassons the vehicle was on a major street when it just died.the first time was comng out of a stop at a red light, the second just when I was driving and the third time whle I was deaccelarating. Miraculalously I was able to use the last bit of momentum and pull over. The car started up again each tme. The dealer had no suggestions the first 2 times except for possble computer misfire.they released the car staitng it should be fine and they could not replcate the event.after starting a case with Hyundai they decided to replace the ignition coils and then the fuel pump. After much questioningand little cooperaion from Hyundai or the dealer, I was told that 1500 people reprted the same life threatenening event onn thier car. Not enough for a recall!!!someone is going to get killed. Neither the dealer or Hyundai thinks this is an issue.case number 8479377.I have never received a call from the case engineer from Hyundai explaining any repairs as promised. Hyundai is unresponsive. Went to pass a tractor. Notice the car was not down shifting. Pushed harder on the pedal and heard a click. After that the car down shifted (I believe this click maybe normal as I notice it on other cars but other mfgs did not have such a violent sounding click. ) the issues is that the pedal got stuck down and I had to use my foot to manually release the pedal from fully down (I reached speeds of around 90 before I could release the pedal from the fully down position).

Sonata comes with a 18.5 gal gas tank. Upon fill up car will only take a maximum of 12 gallons. The supposed "range" of the cars computer show maybe 50 miles when registering near empty. Even so, only 12 gallons can be put into tank. With approximately 6 gallons that have to be still in tank, I should have a range of 180 miles at 30 miles per gallon. Gauge is in need of calibration apparently. Dealer claims to have never heard of this issue even though it happens upon every fill up.

Brand new car purchased and few issues. 1. gas gauge only goes up to 7/8 even with full tank fill up. 2. gas mileage does not seem to indicate correct mileage. With full tank gas, the indicator shows 450+ miles, but actual mileage is 300~350 miles. 3. error occurs when playing songs from iphone 6 using usb cable.

Sonata 4-cyl

Since leasing the vehicle on August 1 I constantly complained about the gas mileage which Hyundai indicated would be resolved on the following oil change. The oil change barely effected the mileage efficiency which leads to the second issue when the gas gauge shows below a quarter on the tank the cruise control does not work and is also affected in high mountain areas. When I explained these issues to Hyundai they said they never heard of it and would sent to the company for further review in the meantime I have a car with the gas gauge that does not show exact amounts from fill up to empty makes this car a safety risk that is totally unacceptable not to mention the car is running horrible which suggest other safety features are not working accurately. The dealers look over only suggested other underlying issues exist with this vehicle and is a clear safety hazard.
