problem #1

Dec 302014

Cherokee 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,500 miles

I bought my car the end of November, it was so nice to have a new Jeep Cherokee! The end of December we traveled 3 hrs away from Fort Worth and started having trouble with our Cruise Control, and the engine light came on. We took our car into the dealership as soon as we returned home, we were told that the whole transmission was faulty and needed to be ordered and replaced completely. We told the dealership we also noticed a loud sputtering noise from our car before we left on our short trip, it seemed to have gotten louder by the time we got home and took it in to the dealership. We asked the dealership to also look into the muffler/exhaust noise.

The dealership Mechanics fixed the transmission (so far so good), but did not fix the sputtering noise. We took our 2015 car back to the shop and told them it was not fixed with the transmission problem. The shop called over the Service Manager and told him to listen to my car, Rick said it was a Jeep Cherokee thing and it cannot be fixed. I went to speak with the Sales Manager and told him we were not aware that our new car was going to sound like an old jalopy when we bought it, and I certainly didn't hear that noise when I first got my car.... I am being told there are two pin holes in the muffler so that water can drain from the pipe and prevent it from rusting........ if this is the case, why don't they do this on all cars??? I am being told that they are ordering a Resonator to put in front of the muffler and this should quiet the exhaust down...

So does this mean all the Cherokees need to have this put on them? He said all the Cherokees make that sputtering noise as soon as it is started up.... I would just like to trade the model in since it is a 2015 and already had to have the Transmission replaced, but now I have to accept the fact that my car will, for now, on sound like a jalopy car???........I really hope Chad helps us with this situation, he seems like he is a stand up kind of guy and like he really wants to help us, he gave us a vehicle to drive until the part comes in and they get my exhaust fixed.... I will get back to everyone on how this comes out. I would really like to know if anyone else is experiencing the same noise problem....
