the rough shifting is ridiculous. You can't even have a conversations because it startles you every other shift. It feels like the front end is going to come apart.

I bought my Jeep brand new in November of 2014. It had 54 miles on it when I left the dealer. From day 1 it was having transmission issues. Every time I had the Jeep in for an oil change I complained about the issues with the transmisssion. Every time I complained I was told because there were no calibration updates or recalls on the transmission there was nothing they could do. I heard this from about 5 different dealers where I had the oil changed at.

Fast forward to recently when I went in for another oil change with almost 43,000 miles on the Jeep I once again complained about the issues with the transmission. This time I got a different response out of the service rep. Because the Jeep is now out of warranty they want to do something about it/ take a look at this issue but it's going to cost me money. How convenient, now that the warranty is gone they will acknowledge there is an issue. I imagine many Jeep owners with the 9 speed got the same treatment.

Is this how Chrysler should be treating their customers?? I want the name of a Chrysler executive so I can have them bend over and drive this piece of @#$% Jeep up their a@*!!!

The rough shifting in low gears is an annoyance and if it was just that, I'd probably not be writting this. The disengaging in an accelerated left turn was almost a T bone crash and very scarey. It's happened twice now and I've determined the conditions under which it happens. In both cases the conditions have been the same. I think the transmission gets confused and doesn't know what to do. It finally kicks into gear and you have a near miss on a T bone crash. I won't let anyone drive my vehicle, especially my kids, because I fear they will make the wrong move and end up in a crash. I know now what not to do and avoid the conditions, if at all possible. It is, my opinion, a design flaw. I've had this Jeep in the shop a couple times for transmission concerns and they are still a problem. I'm totally dissatisfied with the vehicle only because of the transmission. If I had my way, I'd be giving it back to the dealership.

The conditions, where the disengage / confusion on the transmission happens:

I live in Detroit, with heavy rush hour traffic. I travel on a two lane road to my house and it is at a crawling pace. I have to turn left into my subdivision. There is opposing traffic and limited openings to turn. You have to "hit it" to make your left turn between the opposing traffic cars (no stop light). When you hit it, the engine revs in that low gear and you are now into the opposing lane and you have seconds where you seem like you're just floating (no transmission engaged) through that lane. The opposing car is still coming at you. The trans finally jerks and engages and you squeal your tires to quickly get out of the way and not get hit. It's close enough that the opposing car beeps it's horn at you.

The two times it has happend, it has been this exact condition. This has a very high potential for an accident and is very unsafe! Thus, my children will not be driving this Jeep. It's bad, when you don't trust your vehicle (only 1 year old) to another person. I worry for their safety!

Have been having intermittent rough shifting issues, somewhere between 2nd and 4th gear. On the up-shift, the transmission would randomly slam into gear. Sometimes just enough to be a nuisance, other times it was hard enough to think we were rear-ended. Took it to the dealership, but they were unable to reproduce the issue.

This is a relatively new issue as it has been happenning after passing about 15k miles. Between gears 1 through 4 there has been a rough lounge, loud acceleration sound. It seems to be something that you would be used to in an older used car, not a 2015.

I love Jeeps and have owned more than one but I am beyond disappointed with the new Cherokee's. I will start by saying, I didn't do much research on these vehicles before purchase as I figured I was buying a brand new car, what could go wrong? My fault, lesson learned. Everything was great from the jump although I felt like the car drove fairly rough, especially for a new car. Lurching forward when I go to accelerate, sometimes taking a second to even move after my foots been on the gas. Jerking hard when it dropped under 1000 RPM's slowing down at a stop light or parking. It was a little disheartening but I tried to write it off figuring it was just how the car drove. Then I hit about the year mark of ownership and everything goes downhill. I am driving to work Saturday afternoon and I get rear ended. Nothing major, but the car definitely needed some fixing. After weeks of back and forth with the insurances I finally had a chance to get it in the shop. I make an appointment for Monday morning to drop it off. It's the Saturday before and again on my way to work, the battery light flashes on my dash and the car all of a sudden just stops, tells me to shift gears into park and then shift back to drive. Well, no such luck. Car is dead, won't start, but has power. The car is brand new, there's no way the battery is dead nor that there should be any transmission or engine issues. As I'm waiting for the tow truck to arrive, just for sh*ts and giggles I decide to try and turn the car on and voila! it works. I cautiously drive to work and miraculously make it in one piece although the car is definitely not driving right. On my way home that night the battery light flashed on again and right when I thought the car was going to die on me again in the middle of a turn, it jerked and made some grinding noises and then kept driving. Luckily I made it home and the car sat in the driveway until Monday morning when I had it towed to the shop. Tell them what happened and that it has always driven a little funny. They gave me a bunch of bullshit responses as to the drivability and the ins and outs of how these new 9 speed transmissions are in so many words, sh*t. Not that they would say that of course but that's all I heard. Had no real explanation as to why the car just died on me and looked pretty puzzled. Basically, these transmissions are all computer based which lets be real, technology is fantastic but it is not foolproof. And neither are these transmissions, clearly. So they told me about the software updates that they could check for and they also listed off many other ridiculous reasons such as multiple drivers causing issues as well as lets say something as simple as your windshield washer fluid light is on, that that could set off the system and cause these kinds of issues. You're telling me that because my windshield washer fluid is low or I need an oil change that that is going to cause my car to just cut off on me while I'm driving? As many others have stated, thank goodness I wasn't on the highway at this point or on a major road in the middle of traffic. I'm appalled at the fact that somehow there still hasn't been a recall on these transmissions or any significant fix to them because someone hasn't been severely injured or died. That is pure insanity. So now I'm stuck in a car that I don't feel safe driving in and you're basically telling me you did the software updates on it and everything is fine. I left the dealership having the same drivability issues and no peace of mind only to have my car cut off on me again, this morning. Same exact thing happened with the battery light flashing on and then it telling me to shift out of gear into park. I had to have it towed to the dealership again, this time having to pay out of pocket as well as now I have to pay for a rental car in the meantime and I can't do a damn thing until tomorrow morning as it is Sunday. So what is the resolution this time? A new transmission? Another reset or software update (That they don't inform you of when they come up, weird.)? A replacement car of the same vehicle? Or will I be treated like a customer looking for a brand new car with a trade in that is thousands of dollars upside down because it lost so much value in the first year of ownership, and end up paying hundreds of dollars a month for a car that is barely worth half that? All because there is no "significant evidence" that this is a real issue. I am really not sure where to go from here but am hoping to get some answers soon!

Purchased my car in 2015. Started noticing a a problem with the transmission, but just thought it was me. Have noticed it get significantly worse in the past few months. I have taken it to the dealership on 3 separate occasions for the same issue (hard shifting transmission) and was told it is 'supposed' to do that because of the 9 speed transmission.

The more I drove the brand new vehicle after purchase, the less satisfied I was with the way it drives. It is very jerky when accelerating and decelerating. Took to the dealership 2 times. Jeep shifted fine -went in because stop/start only worked intermittently. No 9th gear. Computer "updated" and gas mileage dropped 6 mpg. Still start/stop not working still no 9th gear.

Made appointment with different dealer waited 2 months for appointment, went in and they rescheduled for the next month! Had to leave car, went back in and they said they could not get hold of mechanic to sign off on repairs, they could not reach him and he did not show up for two days. Computer was "updated again!

This time the shifting is very harsh and won't go into 8th gear when it should- gas mileage between 18-21 MPG due to running in 7th gear on highway. Start stop still work when it feels like it although I had it work in Heavy traffic and it work perfectly for 10 minutes and the stopped. I have been in touch with customer service but sounds like the "engineers don't know whats going on and repair may be months away. With the exception of the start/stop I wish I had never been "upgraded"

After break in I took a 400 mile round trip. Going I got 33.5 MPG and returning I got 30.5 as I had some traffic coming back. Now the best I can get is 21 MPG. Transmission worked perfectly before the upgrades. I am going to try one more dealer the factory recommended. Hope they can at least make like it was when I first bought it.

My brand new 4 month old jeep Cherokee back in the shop with a new transmission that doesn't work. we are on to trip number four for the transmission trip number five for the car and I have owned the car a total of 4.5 months. A huge payment on a car that I don't ever get to drive because it's at the dealership. What is the deal with all of these cars breaking down. You shouldn't have to be afraid when you are driving in a brand new car. But I am and that is the worst feeling that I work so hard to pay big money for a beautiful car and I'm afraid in it. It's always breaking the lights going off in the dash what's next . What else did the people putting these cars togeather forget.

From the day I drove the Jeep off the lot I have had to be very careful how I accelerate. The worst of it is that I might be turning left at a stop with oncoming traffic when the Jeep will only roll slightly not respond to pressing the accelerator. After a noticeable pause, the car then accelerates with a burst of speed, as if it is skipping a gear and engaging harshly. The least of my problems is that I'm a 62 year old woman and often the tires bark when this happens as if I'm trying to impress my teenaged friends! The dealership's service department has reprogrammed the transmission 4 times, this last time has been better but it still is rough.

Transmission shifts hard at times it shouldn't be shifting causing it to lunge forward. Could lead to something really bad. Taking it into jim click chrysler for the 3rd time in less than a month. Also when coasting downhill it shifts reall hard down when it shouldn't then immediately up shifts causing it to lunge. And last when I am climbing a hill at about 45 mph it will shift up real hard and lunge forward and "clunks" pretty loud. I am over this 9 speed transmission. These experiences are leaving a bad taste in my mouth for the whole cherokee.

My Jeep Cherokee has great features and accessories. I love the way it looks. But the Transmission..OMG... It has very rough shifting and it doesn't downshift when needed and sometimes i have to do it manually. e.g today i had to down shift it manually from 7th gear to 4th because i had decelerated my car to 25MPH.. Cherokee Latitude V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,000 miles

We bought a brand new 2015 Cherokee to replace a 15 year old Mustang, which just started having it's own transmission issues with 190K miles on it. The Jeep was supposed to be our new "reliable" car, but ever since we bought it, we have had severe issues.

Only a few weeks after buying the car, we noticed a loud tapping/knocking noise coming from the engine. We told the dealership about the sound, but they blew us off stating it was just a noisy engine, and most likely the injectors. The sound got worse over the coming weeks, so back we went to the dealership and they finally took a look at it.

The engine had 3 collapsed lifters and a scored camshaft, so they replaced the short block and sent us on our way, only after a month of having it in the service bay, of course.

A few months later, we noticed the transmission starting to shift hard. When approaching a stop sign, the transmission would clunk into a lower gear just to come to a stop. When we started to accelerate, the transmission would either hesitate and finally jerk into gear, or clunk into gear. Either way, this is NOT how a transmission should drive.

We also noticed a significant vibration, or shaking from the engine between 15-20 MPH while accelerating. Then, one day while getting onto the freeway, all these warning lights started coming on saying the 4WD was not active, STOP/START was not active, and the car would no longer accelerate past 50 MPH, with high RPMs. We had to pull it off to the side of the road where it still would not accelerate, and just kept revving the engine, so we shut it off and sat for a while wondering what to do. After we turned it back on, the check engine light was on, but no more warnings, and the light ended up going off after driving around for 15-20 minutes.

We also experienced a few times where it would say "service shifter", and all the shifter lights would be on. Took it back into the dealership and guess what, new transmission time! So we wait for a new transmission to be put in, another 3 weeks wait, and finally get the Jeep back to drive. Not that long after, the transmission starts clunking into gear, jerking, shaky engine, and rough shifting...all of the exact same issues as before, but actually worse...and this is supposedly a new transmission.

Just last night, the car did the same thing while accelerating onto the freeway...warning lights came on, check engine light, no acceleration past 40 MPH with high RPMs and no power. Are you kidding me!?

We are so done with this vehicle, and we haven't even had it for a full year yet, but have had the engine and transmission replaced, but it's still a piece of sh*t. This is the WORST vehicle I have ever owned in my entire life, and it has more issues than my 15 year old Mustang. Chrysler is of NO help with any of this, but from reading other people's issues, we're definitely not alone.

This is a huge safety risk, especially on the highway when the car decides not to accelerate anymore. Chrysler refuses to make this right for their customers, but then again, what can you expect from a company who uses their consumers to test drive their vehicles before working out the bugs.

I cannot wait to Lemon Law this piece of sh*t, get our money back, and find a better car somewhere else. I will NEVER buy another Jeep, Chrysler, or Dodge product again in my life.

On the 6th day of owning my vehicle after driving 20 miles to work I came to a stop sign. The car jarred into first gear as I tried to come to a complete stop. I was concerned due to the hard shifting and tried to pull forward off the road and it immediately did the same thing moving from 1st to 2nd gear. I immediately called the dealership and was told they were aware of the issue and could perform a "flash" to the module which would help with the shifting. I brought the car back where they performed the flash, however the hard shifting continues to occur intermittently.
