CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2019 Cherokee is racking up engine complaints for suddenly shutting down while driving. But the problem could possibly be related to the increasingly defective 9-speed transmission which suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can cause sudden shutdowns or an unexpected shift into neutral.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the steering wheel made an abnormal noise and vibrated while driving. The contact also stated that the rack and pinion and steering shaft also made an abnormal noise while driving. The power train-automatic transmission, engine, service brakes and hydraulic, electronic system wiring cable under hood, seat, air bags warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,500.
I was driving very slowly, turning the corner of my street when power steering failed, light saying power steering needs servicing came on. I couldn't control the steering, hit the curb, it took out a chunk of the tire and bent the rim. I backed up and with great difficulty, drove car down street trying to get it in driveway. Couldn't steer, parked it in front of my neighbors house.
2019 Jeep Cherokee completely stalled while decelerating on the interstate. Lost all power, steering, and brakes. Was able to restart the vehicle as soon as I put it in park. Called 3 different Jeep dealers who told me they can't diagnose it unless the check engine light is in and that I should call back if it does it again. The 4 cylinder model has a recall for a software glitch for the exact same issue, but mine is a V6. I hope I live through replicating the experience so I can call the dealer to be told they can't/won't figure out what's wrong.
When excelling on the highway there is a vibration felt in the steering, suspension and or drive-line starting at 60 mph. The vibration increases with severity to the point of where it feels unsafe to increase above 75 to 80 mph. Generally below 60 mph or costing at 60-70 mph down grade the vibration seem to be regular road sensation.

On June 15, 2020, I turned left onto a city street and my vehicle began making the warning sound, the same sound when the seatbelt isn't buckled. A few seconds later when I turned right into another city street, the battery level warning came on, then the entire dash lit up and the vehicle quit. After a few attempts to restart, the engine came back on. The next day after I made a left turn, the same thing occurred, the battery level flashed on the dash, then the entire dash lit up and the engine shut down. I wasn't able to steer the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. It took 5 attempts before the engine would restart. On the June 18th soon after I pulled out of my driveway onto a city street, the same event occurred, the dash lit up and the engine stopped, however this time I wasn't making a turn, but I had slowed down because another vehicle coming in the opposite direction had veered close to my side of the road.it took several attempts to restart the engine, and it soon cut off again before I got it back in the driveway. When this occurred, there is no way to guide the vehicle to the side. I was very fortunate that I wasn't hit. Now I am too scared to drive my vehicle.
Jeep has been taken to the dealership 3 times for this problem. First time they couldn't diagnose it, after submitting a problem on here dealer finally took the time to look into it. After taking it back again they ended up keeping the car for 1 week and they replaced the power steering system. 2,000 miles later another steering problem is occurring. Steering is very squirrelly at highway speeds just like before. Car constantly is pulling to either side. Dealer diagnosed it saying it's the castor from the alignment but the dealer cannot fix it and now has left me sitting in the water again.
The steering wheel jerks from left to right when driving. This is a huge safety concern as it could cause loss of control. It happens continuously when traveling above 55mph, going straight, and turning. I have had a dealership look at this and they claim there is no issue and that it is the electronic steering control kicking in. They also had other complaints from multiple 2019 Jeep Cherokee owners and they spoke to Chrysler about it and were told that there was nothing they could do.
When traveling down the highway at speeds above 35 mph, the steering feels like it is abnormally difficult to keep centered in the lane. Then the vehicle starts to drift either left or right and when I try to correct it back to center lane it has some resistance and then it jerks causing it to over correct. This give the feeling of control loss for a moment, and after its back to center it goes the other way doing the same thing. When it is doing it, other people on the road notice it too and won't pass on the left in fear of the vehicle swerving to hit them.
While driving my Jeep its completely stalled out loosing power steering and electrical, had to manually get it to the side of the road. A previous recall UA9 has been issued for this problem but my VIN doesn't match even though it did the same thing.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the steering wheel was slightly turned and failed to respond. The contact was concerned that in inclement weather over correcting the vehicle could lead to a crash. The vehicle was taken to reed Chrysler located at 1724 N spring St, beaver dam, wi 53916, (920) 887-2300, to be diagnosed. The vehicle was driven by a technician who was able to duplicate the failure. The contact was informed that there was no recalls or a fix for the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted nor notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000.
Driving at highway speeds, really anything about 50mph up to about 80mph, I feel the wheel stick when I try to correct the wheel to stay going straight. Even when going around curves on the highways I can feel the stick and it's frightening sometimes. Trying to explain it at the dealership to help them understand he hard and having them feel it might be harder without highway around here to get it up to those speeds for a period of time. This has happened by the way multiple times over the last 10000 miles.
I bought this Jeep with 8 miles on it. At about 5,500 miles while driving straight the steering seems to almost have a dead spot where it feels like there is loss of control to the vehicle. This happens repeatedly causing possible over correct trying to determine if you have control of the vehicle or not. Dealer has been called and awaiting to hear back. My first ever Jeep purchase.
Previously, I reported issues with oil consumption, which eventually required an engine replacement. I now have an issue with steering wheel, feels like it is trying to correct itself when driving regular streets and highway with no issues of alignment, tires, etc. Appt with napleton's arlington heights on 1/23/2020 did not mention anything that was done to look for issue, other than recall software update of 18va9182, which they said would solve the problem. However, the problem persists. In addition, I just received a safety recall notice from fca, stating that when I had taken my vehicle in for recall #18V739, that my vehicle was not properly inspected and the recall was closed. I told the dealership this was done completed and they said they would do the update, however, they had not completed the correct one, and the problem with steering still persists. I am worried this issue is a safety concern, and would like to be contacted to have this problem addressed.
Ever since I purchase the vehicle it will pull to the left or right. When trying to correct the position of the steering wheel I feel resistance until it gives and jerks in the opposite direction. Feels like something is getting stuck and then comes loose. This only happens when the vehicle is in motion and is very noticeable when going around 35-55mph. When at a higher rate of speed it is as though the momentum of the vehicle is helping it stay straight but it will still do it.
When driving mostly at highway speeds but sometimes at lower speeds the steering gets tight when making a slight adjustment to the steering, which makes me pull it harder to get it loose and then have to over compensate to get the vehicle back in a straight line. This is extremley dangerous because it has caused me to run off the highway and come very close to hitting other vehicles. I have had it in the shop at the dealership 3 times and Chrysler looked at it and said this is normal with the electronic speed sensitive steering. This should not be normal because it is putting my life in danger. This issue has been since I bought the vehicle August 2018.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated the vehicle would not immediately respond when turning the steering wheel. The contact indicated that the steering wheel had to be turned approximately 1/4 of an inch in either direction before the wheels would respond. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer colby Dodge (1000 taylor ave colby ks) who performed a steering module update however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 22,000.
While the vehicle's engine is running, regardless of the gear selection, there is a slight jerking of the steering wheel. This jerking occurs at random with no other noticeable issues. This issue is not "throwing" a code and dealership is claiming there is no issue found. Odometer is at 10340 miles. This is a dangerous issue as it could cause my vehicle to collide with another vehicle or object if not resolved. Issue occurs when vehicle is stationary or in motion and occurs approximately every minute or so. It occurs on city streets as well as highway. It occurs while driving in a straight line or during a turn. There is no specific driving condition that resolves the problem or worsens the problem.
When driving at expressway / highway speeds of 60 plus for a non stop 30-50 miles, there is almost like a "dead spot" in the steering. When I move the steering wheel about 1/4" to the left or the right it feels like it is catching on something when making small wheel adjustments within your own lane, it almost feels as if your tires break loose, but on dry pavement. When the steering then catches. It also feels like there is gust of wind on both sides of the vehicle. It then jerks back and forth. There is also a burning smell for a short period of time. This started at 5500 miles. I have a 2019 Jeep overland. It could easily become dangerous. Had it at zeigler Jeep in schaumburg il on 11/9/2019 and they recoded module and cound not recreat the proble. It has been happening more and more frequently since then. Went back on 12/26/19 and took the tech for a 1.5 hour test drive and everything happened as stated above. The tech finally re-created the problem. My new 2019 Jeep overland has been in the shop since then. They are sending engineers in from Jeep. All I want is a safe car. Ps; this is my first Jeep product.
