CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Grand Cherokee hasn't seen the same complaint volume as the 2011, at least not yet.

It's worth noting both model years are part of a class-action lawsuit that focuses on a defective TIPM and a long wait for replacement parts.

The 2012 also received national attention after it failed a Swedish Magazine's "moose test". The test measures a vehicle's ability to swerve out of the way of an obstacle you wouldn't want to hit while driving down the road ... like a moose.

I started my vehicle up on a cold morning, -5 degrees. Brought vehicle up to 40mph, applied the brakes, noticed the pedal was stiff. Brakes weren't working, and dashboard brake warning light was on. Managed to stop and park vehicle. Brought to dealership last night (2/14/14) where vehicle was diagnosed with bad brake booster. Upon further investigation online, brake boosters were affected by cold whether all over the northeast part of the country. Vehicle was extremely difficult to stop. Service manager seemed familiar with the problem and reported that parts were being ordered from the manufacturer. I feel obligated to report this situation with the hope that something will be done about this problem before someone gets hurt.

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while reversing, the brakes failed to respond as the brake warning light illuminated. The contact mentioned that the emergency brake was activated in order for the vehicle to stop. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 48,000.

Brake booster failure. Dealer states "low assist". Jeep has no stopping power at all, pedal is hard and vehicle just keeps rolling. Parts are nationally backordered. From what I'm reading online this is a large scale problem. Moisture is getting in the booster and freezing, causing brakes to fail. I have a case number open with Jeep.

I am the owner of a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee that at the time of the following incident had approximately 48000 miles on it. During our first cold weather in January 2014 I took the car out and when I went to apply the brakes I had to step on the pedal with all my strength to avoid hitting another car and then had to steer the car off the road to avoid a accident. I then parked the car on the side of the road and did not drive it the rest of the day. The next day when the temperature was warm again I had no problem with the brakes. A week later during another cold weather the brakes had the exact same problem making the car extremely dangerous to drive and a liability to both me and others on the road. I had the car towed to my local mechanic who said it was a problem with the power brake booster and that the booster had a faulty design that allowed water to get into it causing failure in freezing temperature and is not detectable unless the temperature drops below freezing which is a huge safety hazard. I contacted to Jeep to order the part and found out that it is on national back order due to a extremely high volume of parts failures in both Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge durango trucks. I barely avoided a serious accident in my truck due to a design flaw by Jeep that they refuse to correct which will lead to a unsuspecting person being in a serious accident because Jeep refuses to correct a known problem.

I currently lease a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and the other day my wife and son were driving the car and the brakes completely failed. They would not depress even at 5-10 mph and if completely slammed to the floor the ABS would pump bake fighting the brake pressure. They went through a red right and luckily were not hurt. Later the brakes begin working and we dropped it off at the service center. Once there they test drove it and almost crashed as the brakes would not work. They said it needs a new brake booster, but the part is on back order and there are actually 3 other cars at that service station which needs the same part. I have read a couple posts on various websites with people having the same issue. I was wondering if others have experienced the same issue? (on another note no one has been able to help us with either a loaner car or paying for a rental as the car has 38K miles so technically out of warranty..so that's been fun). Thanks.

April 5, 2013, less than a year (purchased - 2012 Jeep grande Cherokee Laredo) the check engine light went on, took vehicle to service department, and informed my service provider (Jeep dealership) there is a "problem" with the cylinder head. Very disturbing because the vehicle was purchased brand new, less than 10K miles and already a major part must be replaced on a "brand new" vehicle. I am informed that is not a common, and there are several other owners with the same problem "check engine light on". repair took more than three days, because the entire engine must be taken out to replace these two cylinders. Very alarming and very concerned for the future of this vehicle, what else could possibly go wrong next? two months later, driver side seat must be replaced due to cracks in the "leather". two months after, brakes are making strange noises, acceleration very slow, stalls, must press very hard on gas pedal for vehicle to pick up speed, very frightening especially when entering the freeway. Door panels appears loose, the doors (3) will not stay open, requires extra push and hold before it stays open by itself. To close the door I must literally slam the door, otherwise not shut, very disturbing because my childrens sit back there. Hopefully this is my last encounter the cameras (back) of vehicle flash on and off, I am very concern especially when the position of the driver seat makes looking back very difficult, the camera cannot be functioning inefficiently. The vehicle has a 3/year or 36,000 mile warranty and with the amount of issues I have encountered I do not find that to be sufficient or even utterly appropriate. I purchased a brand new vehicle not a used. If there were no warranties I could not imagined paying out of pocket thousands of dollars on repairs.

I am writing to you about an area of concern regarding my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland. For no reason I have a crack in my windshield while the car was parked. This crack extends vertically from the top center of the windshield around the rear view mirror and then extends horizontally the remainder of the way. I understand cracks happen, though when I did some searching around the internet, I notice that this is far from an isolated incident. I have found dozens of threads on the same topic...and not just a crack that appears for no reason, but all these cracks are in the same location. This is not a coincidence. Below are a few (one contains pictures). townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.F19A60E (scroll down to entry # 8-10) www.jeepforum.com/forum/F309/2012-overland-hemi-cracked-windshield-1362551/ www.truedelta.com/Jeep-grand-Cherokee/problems-144/2012 (scroll about halfway down) these pictures show an identical crack to the one that I have experienced. Also of concern is that in the one post the user states that the windshield is on back-order from Jeep...clearly Jeep is selling a lot of replacement windshields. As we all know the windshield is one of the most dominant safety features on a vehicle and it is clear that there is a defect in the vehicle that is causing these cracks, likely a structural issue with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It would seem to me that an issue with a vehicle compromising the single most important safety feature of a car isn't to be taken likely and warrants investigation. I would be happy to provide you with pictures and can make myself available to speak at your convenience. Also you should note that upon taking my car to the dealer, they were explicit that this was not a warrant-able item, leaving me with no issue than to submit a claim on my insurance. This Jeep was replaced because the prior Jeep was lemon law. The engine light appeared after about 3 weeks of purchase, the car was brand new. Like the last Jeep, it would stall causing loss of power brakes and power steering. The electrical system would also freeze (navigation and radio) constantly and would not fix itself unless the battery was unplugged. Shave Jeep in thousand oaks, ca upgraded the engine and navigation software, but problems resumed short after. Shaver Jeep then informed me that they would only look at the vehicle if the engine light was on. The engine light would go on and off so it was hard to time it right to bring it into the shop. Because of this "rule, " shaver Jeep will not acknowledge that the car has been brought in for repair 7 times. As of today, the car stalled on a busy freeway and put the passengers in danger. Constant engine code: Crankshaft position sensor.

Driving the vehicle from the driveway doen the road to a stop sign. When applying the brakes noticed that the pedal went down to the floor and the brakes did not grab to stop the vehicle. Holding the pedal to the floor heard a sound (like air releasing from a basketball) and the vehicle slowly began to slow down and roll to a stop. Acrefully reached my destination which was a short distance. Left vehicle in parking lot and went to work. Came out approximately three hours later. Air temperature had warmed up to above 32 degrees. Drove vehicle again and brakes worked normally. Called dealership the next day and they said since no ABS light came on they really couldn't do anything. They suggested that maybe there was air in the brake line. Well on Feb.18th it happened again after the vehicle was outside in the cold and the wind chill was in the single digits. I called the dealership immediately and was told to bring it to them. I did and the service person when moving my vehicle to "around back" had the same occurance. Brake pedal going all the way to the floor and vehicle rolling to a stop. Well the mechanic didn't get to the vehicle until later in the day when the air temperature warmed up and he found that the brakes were functioning normally and he could not find any issue with the brake lines, brake master cyclinder, or ABS. The dealer has kept the vehicle overnight but I am concerned they will find no issue. I do not want to drive the vehicle until I am assured that the brakes will function properly in all weather condions.

I bought my band new 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland 7 months ago - brand new from the Chrysler Jeep dealership and about a month after I bought it I started to notice the acceleration is not 100%, the windows stop rolling up or down for hours at a time at random time, the brakes sometimes don't work all the way, the engine jumps when switching gears and most recently my check engine light came on, the car would not accelerate and the rpms would not go past 1.5 even when flooring it & there were loud clicking noises with a loud fan. This time I was not able to drive to the dealership - I had to tow it in because it was not drivable. I have taken it to the dealer ship 3 times for them to check on these things & everytime I take it in they tell me they are "unable to recreate the problems" & cannot help me. I have called numerous times to complain & report issues and they either tell me they cannot help me, they put me on hold for an infinite amount of time, I go to voicemail, or no one is available. They called me today, after having it for 4 days, and told me the check engine light was for a "evap perg system" so they replaced a hose & updated my power control module as a precaution. When I asked them how this had anything to do with my engine problems he could not explain it. When I asked him why my engine has problems he could not explain it. No one there wants to help me - what I feel like they are doing is giving me excuse after excuse in the book, stalling me for as long as they can until my warranty runs out. I have dealt with 4 managers there - the 1st one stopped returning my phone calls, the 2nd one told me I am imagining things and I should stop complaining and be thankful that I have a new car, the 3rd one pond me off onto a 4th one & the 4th one told me to my face that I am a liar and I am making up stories so the situation looks worse then it actually is.
