Lights randomly turn on and off running the battery down. The battery kept going dead for no reason (new battery). We finally figured out it was the lights turning on and off when I put in security cameras and saw it happen.

I purchased a "new" 2008 Jeep Liberty Limited (with Skyslider) from a popular dealer in Boulder in October of 2009. I say "new" because it was a demo vehicle for the wife of the dealership owner and already had just over 6000 miles on it when we test drove it. I had been looking for just the right jeep for quite some time, as I was a HUGE Jeep fan and was excited to be in the Rocky Mountains in my first one soon. I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere, and one of my favorite things when I was younger was to explore where not too many had before - so it seemed the Jeep mentality was a perfect fit. I love the outdoors, camping, hiking, and four-wheeling, but I don't live in the mountains, so I need a vehicle that would fit both ends of my lifestyle - commuting to work, and taking off to the mountains as often as possible with my husband and 2 dogs. The new Liberty seemed to fit all of my requirements perfectly, plus the added bonus of a fun canvas 'convertible' top. (I've owned 2 convertibles before, and I know the pros and the cons) Needless to say, we got a 'good deal' on the slightly used, BUT STILL CONSIDERED NEW (I was reminded multiple times by my salesperson of this fact) Liberty from our local dealership. I traded in my most favorite speed racer car - yes, I am a bit of a car freak - and thought my life in the mountains would be full of birds and wolves singing in the car with me. Then the real ride began. So, I must confess I have to leave some parts of this story out, because I am supposed to report multiple problems separately. Unfortunately, that is all that my Liberty has been since we drove it home. But let's concentrate on the electrical, shall we? Within a month of driving this baby home, my electrical woes began. First it was the seats. So... I was sitting at a light, and had to reach my purse in the back seat. When doing something like this, I always put my car in neutral so if my foot slips off the brake, I don't accidentally hit the gas and rear end someone, or god-forbid drive into the middle of the intersection and, well, you know. I don't even get turned around, and my seat starts moving back and lowering. I check to see if something has dropped between the door and the seat and somehow hit the power seat button, but nothing. I put my car back in Drive and pull of at the next available parking lot. Now, my Liberty Limited has the memory function for 2 different drivers, so I mimic my movement to see if I hit one of them with my knee. Nope. So I press one while I have the car in neutral to see if that will move the seat. Nothing. Hmmm, strange. But maybe a fluke. Ok. So a few days later, I am backing up at work, and one of my co-workers stops to talk to me, so I put my car in neutral and it does it again. This time I am not turned in any way, and know nothing got touched. So clearly, the seat is malfunctioning when the car is in neutral. This is not good. I make an appointment at the same local dealership for the beginning of next week, and just be mindful of putting my car in neutral. But then, I am parking at work one day, and I had put it in park - my seat moved back like it's supposed to, and then it moved forward again. No reason. Just decided I might like a ride I guess. I then disabled the auto seat adjustment feature, and didn't have another problem with that. But the very next day, my door locks decide to only work when they feel like it. I would push the button, and nothing would happen. I would hold the button down, and still nothing. I would click it 3 times, still nothing. I took the car into the dealership, and they kept it for the day. That evening, they said they could not duplicate the problem, and they were not sure why it was happening. I got the distinct impression they didn't really believe me, and so I drove home with nothing resolved. I left the seat auto adjust function off, and continued to have problems with the door locks for the next few weeks. Then one fine afternoon, I am getting some coffee from a drive-through and hit my auto down button for my window, and it moves a little, but no more, so I hit it again, and the same result occurs. So now my auto down feature is not working. I get my coffee, and try the auto up - but no, not today Coach. I once again call the dealership and make an appointment. Once again, they keep the car all day, and cannot recreate the problem. Really? And they continue to make it seem like there really isn't a problem and I just probably am not using the features the right way. Okay. I get that there are some things I don't know. But how to use a door lock is not one of them. I mean, come on! At this point, I am highly annoyed. One, my brand new Jeep is acting up, and two, I am getting treated worse than a moron. My husband was my ride and was sitting outside waiting, when he saw my face (or more likely the bright red glow coming from it) and he asked what was wrong. I explained that they couldn't fix the problem because they could not re-create it, and that somewhere in the middle of it I have lost all of my education and returned to my 3 year old learning curve. He fiddled with the locks for about 4 seconds and they would not respond to him, so he walked in to tell the service manager that he had just achieved the unachievable when the manager told him that they were closing for the day, and that he would have to call tomorrow to make an appointment to resolve this problem. Needless to say, my husband was just as flabbergasted as I was at the less than awesome customer service we were provided. We promptly went to another dealer. Unfortunately by now, we had added another problem to our list. This time there was a random (and I do mean random) warning ding occurring while driving. Every time we would look down for the corresponding light, there was absolutely nothing. When we took it in to the new dealer (5 star) they could not find any readings or error messages on the computer, and they could not locate the problem. I even went for a drive with one the mechanics to figure out what might be setting off the ding, but like any good problem should, it did not act up while the mechanic was in the car. I had no way of solving the problem and no one to turn to that had answers. Now remember, we had more problems than just electrical, but I have to list those separately, and because of the numerous problems, we actually wrote a letter to Chrysler stating all of the issues and asking for help. We got no response. We went to our new dealer, and we got a sales pitch. The old dealer is completely worthless. They don't even return phone calls. To anyone. Not even the extended warranty folks. And I am now the unhappy and very unproud owner of a 'new' Jeep Liberty Limited Skyslider.
