2008 Jeep Liberty. Started with door locks not working. Key fob had new battery and when clicked the rear lights would go on but the locks didn’t work. Took it to Sears 28 Apr 2018. They said they put in a new fuse and it burned up. They put in a 2nd fuse and it burned up. They tried to reconnect the battery cables and saw an electrical arc jump from the battery or cable to the fuse box. Sears started with a $100 diagnostic fee and then said I had to pay $1700 for them to continue without a guarantee that they could fix the problem. They were worried the computer was damaged. Now my Jeep had no power. I was able to drive it to get service and had to tow it home. Sears waived the diagnostic fee. I called Sears and made a complaint over the phone and got a case number.

Towed the Jeep to the dealer on Monday April 30, 2018. They quoted a $160 diagnostic fee but increased it to $480 for a more thorough exam. No estimated repair completion date. Service started on Tuesday May 1st. Called dealer evening May 1st, electrician wants more time. Can’t find problem. I really don’t think I can pay these repair bills. I am stuck taking the bus to work and bumming a ride home from co-workers.

I read other blogs and seen You Tube videos with same problem. Could be Body Control Module?

I really like the Jeep body design but the service problems so far have been costly for a vehicle with such low mileage. I am the original owner. No after market parts. Problems seem to start after a routine oil change at the dealer and I even mentioned it to them! Past repairs include broken air conditioning (refuse to get it repaired), serpentine belt replaced, radiator replaced, various broken hoses. Never had all these problems with the Chevys I have owned before at this mileage.

Is there a class action suit against Chrysler for building such a problematic vehicle? Again, they got the body right although the interior carpeting Was cheap because sections are worn away now and the leather could have been softer and high beams never really worked, but I still love the cargo space and tight turning radius and just how it looks. The commercial was great, too.

I have a 2008 Jeep Liberty and have had an ongoing electrical issue. 2 months ago, the vehicle failed to start. I had the battery and the alternator checked, and they both reported as being good. After that, I had no other issues with the vehicle. On October 29, 2014, I was out with my family when the vehicle failed to start. After jumping it off, I brought it home. On the drive home, I noticed that the headlights would flicker. The next morning, I had no issues getting the vehicle started. However, when I went to turn on the rear wiper, it would not shut off after turning the knob on the steering column off.

On November 1, 2014, we were leaving the house, when the vehicle failed to start again. Instead of working on it, we just left in our other car. On November 2, 2014, after work, I went outside to test the vehicle. Once again, it failed to start. I checked the battery, and it reported having a 13.5-14 v output (which is perfect rating). I jumped the vehicle off and allowed it to run. I pulled the positive lead off and checked the alternating output, which read 12.5-13 v (once again, an excellent rating). Leaving the lead off the battery, I turned on the headlights. The vehicle continued to run, however the lights flickered. The alternator was checked, but showed that it was providing sufficient power.

About a year ago, I had the wiring harness in the steering column replaced due to a malfunction in the switch for the forward wiper blades, not sure if this wiring harness is causing another electrical shortage in the vehicle.
