Liberty Limited 3.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 43,900 miles

My engine started knocking, took it to my personal mechanic and he said he thought it was a rocker arm problem and suggested to call Chrysler/Jeep to find out about my warranty. He said this is a well known problem with these engines. This happened in February and my power train expired in Oct. of 2015. The warranty was for 5 years or 100000 miles. I only had 43900( didn't even reach a half way point). At first Corporate said they would probably work with me. Let me also mention that we have owned 5 Chrysler or Jeep cars over the last 20 years. Corporate also advised me that in order to work with me, I had to take my Jeep to a dealership, even though my mechanic is Chrysler/Jeep certified. So I took it to the dealership and called Corporate back to let them know it was there. They diagnosed it with the same findings. Let me also mention that I took it to the closest dealership, so that I didn't put any additional damage on the engine. However, I offered to have it towed by AAA to my dealership which was over 50 miles away and Corporate said that wasn't necessary. Since I didn't buy the Jeep nor service the Jeep at this dealership, the service manager said he would not cover the repair but possibly give me a BIG 10% discount. Corporate did absolutely nothing and did not override the dealership decision. They quoted me $1800 repair cost. I paid it but when I got there, apparently they did not fix it properly the first time and had to reopen and make additional repairs resulting in another $1100 worth of work, which they absorbed because of their own error. Even though the car is fixed, I'm scared to death to keep this vehicle. After this treatment I have decided to never purchase another Chrysler Jeep product and have advised family and friends to do the same!

I have mentioned it befotre to the dealer. The mechanic comes out and says they all make that nose and are noisey. You do not hear it inside the jeep but outside orm with the window down in a garage it is very noticable. it sounds like a faint rod knock coming on and going. louder at first start but get better as thye engine is run. The mechanic gave me keys to other jeeps and some where even louder then mine. Why would they build a V 3.7 that sounds like it has lifer tick and rod bearing knock that can be heard asnd there is noting anyone canj do. I wont be buying another jeep with that engine ever again. I dont drive a lot and at 2 years I have 12000 miles. I had the rear brakes wear out but the MFG paid me the $400 back as it was very pre-mature for unknown reason, I had to have them tak out the entire dash to repalce the ac/hear vent door control box which is like a 12 hour job, I had sensors replaced due to engine lights coming on, I had a new blower motor replaced that shorted out, I has a new air pump replace for bad bearings, I had a a oil leak from a transfer case seal. I am very unhappy with the jeep and I spend more time in the shiop then driving it. Maybe I got one that is just bad but my friends also have many problems with theirs too.
