Problem 2 of 12: About 3-4 months after purchase, all of the electronic door locks stopped working. I took time off work again to take the car to the dealership. They told me the car simply missed a computer update and had the car for the day and returned it to me working. Still under 30K, so no financial worries.

Locks and fob just went out of sync. Read other complaints and solutions. Disconnected battery waited a minute or so. Reconnected battery fob and locks reset and now work. We will see how long. So far the jeep has been good and fun.

Purchased new Aug. 1 2016, last of the 2015's on the lot. Within 1,000 miles the electrical locks malfunctioned as would not unlock with remote or by using driver's door lock switch. Lock function worked with remotes or door switch. Lights would come on when pressed unlock on remote but doors stayed locked. Had to use key to open driver's door then reach over seats etc to unlock doors manually..... did a software update and disconnected battery at dealership and then locks worked EXCEPT the auto unlock feature when exiting stopped working a week later.

This is exactly how things started the first time. First failure was the auto unlock... then one day car would not unlock electrically at all. Dealership said first time was "a software problem"... but seriously how could software or "code" work one day and not the next? Nobody writes code saying work for two weeks then stop. Seems it has to be a sensor or computer chip or wiring connector loose etc. Back in the shop today for that (and a new problem listed separately concerning hill start assist failure), and am being told it is a software issue still with no certain fix from Jeep.

Update from Sep 5, 2018: 39000 miles, and about 39000 complaints to Chrysler and to dealership. Auto locks still not working properly... will lock the car, but when exiting will NOT unlock the other doors unless I leave the car running and the manual gear in neutral then opening driver's door does unlock all the doors. Engine off, no auto unlock, engine on will unlock weird. So far all Chrysler and dealership have to say is my car is normal and problem is me the operator not understanding how it is supposed to work. Luckily no more weird inability to unlock with door button or remote. Family still don't trust it and so it has become my primary car and I just completely disabled all automatic locks.

I noticed when I went to lock my doors with my fob, the lights were flashing, the horn beeped, but my car was not locked. I manually tried to lock them from the inside buttons and that did not work either. I looked online and found that this is an issue in many Renegades. I called The Jeep Store and they were super helpful. I brought it right in, the man knew about the issue. He said it was a matter of reprogramming the software and that it would be fixed asap. Hopefully that is the case! I'll be back for an update if the problem does not get fixed.

I thought I was locking my car all of the time because the beep sounded each time. I never tried to open my door without first unlocking or locking it electronically. In Feb. 2016, I thought I misplaced my REVO sunglasses in my car. So the next day I bought expensive Ray Bans. I left them in my car on the driver's floorboard, still in the purchase bag with receipt and box. I "locked" my car as usual, or so I thought. The next day I got in my car and the glasses were gone, bag and all. So I made a police report. I was dumbfounded as to how this could have happened. Now I knew that my other sunglasses had not been misplaced. They were stolen too. Someone at work suggested that perhaps my doors were not locking. So the next day I tried it. THEY DID NOT LOCK!!! I googled this problem and saw that other car owners reported this same problem. One article stated that an owner was reimbursed for items stolen out of her Renegade. So after it took the dealer THREE WEEKS to fix this problem, I called Jeep today at 1-800-992-1997. I was told to make an insurance claim and that it wasn't their problem.

This problem has to do with my door locks. The key fob and the console in the vehicle won't lock the doors.

The horn will blow and the lights flash as usual but the door will not lock. The only way to lock the door is manually. I Googled to see if there were any complaints of this nature and sure enough there was. Some of the fixes were to unhook battery cables for 60 seconds then it may work, it did for some people. I am not going to unhook my cables every time there is a problem.. it's a new ride and pricey I would like it to work the way it is supposed to. I took it to the Jeep dealer this morning to have all my complaints checked on and to see if any other problems that may have been reported are also checked out. I know this is a new year for a new car and I'm good with that. There are going to be some kinks and maybe these complaints will help the next generation of car be a lot better. So I'm not bitchin just trying to get it fixed.

Door locks did not work after about 300 miles. Manually locked doors for the next 3 months until I had to take the Renegade in for another problem (car not starting). Dealer fixed the door locks but di not have an explanation or fix for the car not starting.

After 4600 miles the electric door locks failed. I have had the Renegade for a little over two months. I like the car, but it isn't a POS. Will update or report back a fix after I talk to dealer. It had better not be - "disconnect the battery" every time this occurs. I mean I didn't by a Hundai or Kia - they'd better fix this.

What is wrong is a safety hazard. What if something would have happened, say a wreck. Whoever is on that side of the car would not be able to get out! They'd be trapped. Just trying to get this resolved has been a real headache. This is the only vehicle I have and being without a vehicle is not an option. My schedule has been crazy and then having to wait and go back to get it fixed, which I have not been able to do...I did have some help from the guy who sold me the car. Its been frustrating, to say the least.. I will be going back to get it fixed.

Lock Failure: I wanted to post about a recent problem we have had at around 1000 miles with our new Renegade. Our remote control lock was no longer working, and the interior lock buttons were not unlocking either. We have had to unlock the vehicle by hand on each door. As well, the remote makes the car honk, so I wouldn't have assumed it wasn't locking. You can understand our frustration! Took the vehicle into the dealership and they temporarily solved the problem by unplugging/plugging the vehicle's battery. The dealer said we would need to unplug the battery each time this happens. We called Jeep Customer Care to find a permanent solution. We were told Jeep is working on a software update. I have been reading a number of people have this issue. I want you to be aware. We are hoping we find a solution, because I'm not willing to put our family at risk by not knowing if the locks are working.
