The key kept getting stuck in the ignition. Had play with it 20 - 30 times to get it to turn. Then you get car to start only to find that you now can't get the key out. Car then went dead after a week of this. Had to get a jump. Drove to Jeep dealer and they said it was a bad battery and this is why key kept getting stuck. I don't believe this. I'm waiting to see if this key stuff starts happening again. Meanwhile I had to rent a car, call out of work etc. They have no idea what this is and were making stuff up as they went along including it had something to to with the brake system! I swear that's what they told me!

Update from Oct 2, 2018: Ok key still got stuck only now after battery replacement knobs on radio stay lit up when car is off! Are you ready? They said I need a $980.00 new radio so the computer system can be updated and then whats lit up will go off. This is a jeep dealer telling me this. Needless to say -last jeep i will ever have.

I drove the vehicle for less than an hour and tried to get the key out of the ignition, fought for about 15 minutes and thought I broke the key because of all the fussing I had to do, spoke with the dealership and they sent me to the dealership[ to get fixed under warranty.

Stopped that day to talk to the service advisor and could not get key out of ignition at all. They could not either.

Then the whole system crashed and no power at all when they tried to start it and then finally got the key out of the cylinder, so now they believe they need to remove and replace the ignition switch and that they believe shall fix the problem.

Not sure yet since the holiday is upon us and they could not get to the repair until after the holiday.

We shall see what happens next.

Owned the car for less than a day.... surprises and lots of back and forth driving to get this fixed. Exhausted. NEXT

Update from Jan 18, 2018: that key situation has been repair as best i can be - but I have new problems to add to this:

1) the key fob does not unlock and lock the car all the time

2) the windshield washer fluid novels keep freezing up andI have gone into to two time the soft side of the road or once a ditch because I could not get any water to come out of the nosels at all

3) The radio while driving down the road and changes the channel when ever it hits a bump, it is so weird because something looks like the channel changer is being pushed - personally I just tell everyone it's haunted, but everyone looks like I'm nuts.

Honestly. I have had it to the dealership before and have another thing again, they tried to download the update but that did not do any good, unfortunately.

Thank you - you are now aware!!! The ghosts are coming to a radio near you... JEEP RENEGADE's

Renegade Lattitude 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,890 miles

The key has stuck in the ignition since purchasing my Jeep. Regularly happens and up until now became unstuck by Random means. Very annoying and underscores how poorly this vehicle has been manufactured.

Update from Aug 31, 2016: I took this to the dealer. There is a service bulletin out but there is a backlog request for parts. It's very large! The plan is to replace the whole key cylinder. Talk to your dealer about the service bulletin before wasting time taking the vehicle in. Jeep Fiat is not giving me a warm fuzzy about their customer service.

Key gets stuck in the ignition and takes a long time to get out. Have to fiddle with it... but seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how it eventually comes free from the ignition.
