FIXING The "Death Wobble - These guys seem to have more success than anyone I have found in my research, and take an in depth methodology, rather than randomly suggesting "tires" or "steering dampener" for lack of any intelligent response.
Have had zero probs w/ '06 Wrangler until I hit 18,000 miles. I suddenly started experiencing a "shimmy" after hitting rough patches on the road. Local dealer replaced the steering damper but this resolved only 25% of the problem. I now have a "new" sensation as at interstate speeds I feel the steering wheel vibrate right to left. (death wobble?)
Before I take it back to the dealer I want to be armed with the knowledge of what needs to be repaired so, any ideas what the problem is? (And yes, it is six yrs old with only 18,500 miles!)
This is a ongoing problem with these Jeeps from 99 to 06. Than Jeep replaced the whole front end on the 07. So they know about it and will not fix it. I replace many parts on it and still the same result from 55 to 60 the whole jeep is undrivable. This need to be fixed and its not wright what Mopar is doing and that's nothing.
Original 2006 jeep wrangler with NO after market products...DEATH WOBBLE started after about 40,000 miles. Can't trust it on highway. Death Wobble is a constant problem with it.....Come on Chrysler!!!, Bad business!!!!!!!!
As much as I love my LJ 2006 Wrangler, the dreaded "Death Wobble" has been it's one Achilles Heel! The trac bar and steering stabilizer were replaced a little over 1 year ago. A few weeks ago, Death Wobble returned. Took it back to where the repair was done and I was pretty upset the trac bar needed replacing again. Trac Bar was replaced and all was right with the world for a week until Death Wobble returned again. VERY frustrating. I do a great deal of driving and for now, my LJ remains in the driveway.
After reading more about this issue, I am very upset this problem has not been addressed by the manufacturer.
I along with many others I've discovered, have the dreaded Jeep Death Wobble. I have purchased new tires and put a steering stabilizer on my Jeep and this does help temporarily, but no permanent fix?! I cannot believe Jeep, knowing that they have a problem continue to let people drive with this issue. One day, someone is going to get killed. I drive mostly interstate to work, and I have, on several occasions had to get off of the side of the road to get my car under control. I will never purchase another. My daughter is not driving an wants one....NOT NEVER. I have emailed Jeep about this numerous times and they could care less.
