CarComplaints.com Notes: Kia really changed the design of the Sorento in the 2011 model year. Instead of a truck-like body-on-frame more capable of offroad adventures, the newest Sorento is a unibody construction and is much more crossover than sport utility. The changes brought a whole slew of problems, including a frustrating problem where the door that won’t open. Is it too late to go back?

I bought a 2011 Kia Sorento last June. I have been having issues with the brakes I have had the vehicle in the dealership 3 times this year for about 3 weeks at a time. The problem with the brakes is that the pedal goes to the floor, when driving the vehicle you never know at what point the brakes will start slowing down the car. I feel very unsafe in it!

When I first took it to Cobourg Kia they said “yes there is a problem with the brakes”. They tried to do some work to make them better, they bled the lines and felt that was the problem, that did not make them any better. Another dealership had said that they had the same problem with a customer’s 2011 Sorento; Cobourg Kia was working with them to fix the problem.

When I got the vehicle back the brakes were no better. It has been to 4 Kia dealerships and they all say there is nothing wrong with the brakes and all the 2011 Sorento’s are like that. I was told by Cobourg Kia would flatbed my vehicle to Peterboroug Kia and later found out that it was driven there, when I got it back 600km had been put onto it, between 3 dealerships.

I sent the vehicle back to the dealership to get the brakes fixed, they informed me that there is nothing wrong with the brakes and the service manager said “we have customers that have brakes that are worse than yours”. With that comment I contacted Kia Canada, I have not gotten anywhere with them.

I just want the dealership and Kia Canada to stand behind their products. We as customers can’t let a company to get away with issues regarding safety. We are not talking about a cosmetic issue but a safety concern.

I have also had issues with the sunroof rattling, every time the vehicle has gone in for the brakes I have asked for the sunroof to be fixed. Cobourg Kia takes it into Mississauga (where the sunroof was put in) for it to be done, but every time it comes back to me it was rattling the same.

I have had 3 Kia Rio’s and when I decided to buy a bigger vehicle I went with Kia again, that was the worst mistake I have ever made. How many other Kia customers are having issues with their 2011 Sorento’s? Also we need to show Kia that we will not continue to purchase their vehicles if they don’t stand behind the products.
