CarComplaints.com Notes: Kia really changed the design of the Sorento in the 2011 model year. Instead of a truck-like body-on-frame more capable of offroad adventures, the newest Sorento is a unibody construction and is much more crossover than sport utility. The changes brought a whole slew of problems, including a frustrating problem where the door that won’t open. Is it too late to go back?

Sorento EX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 192,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE HAS HIGH MILEAGE IT WAS PERFORMING FINE UNTIL IT STARTED PECKING, THEN KNOCKING THEN JUST BEFORE I TURNED INTO THE DRIVE I NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO IS A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND HE SAID IT SURE SOUNDED LIKE A ROD BEARING WAS GOING OUT. THERE IS NO KIA DEALERSHIP IN OUR TOWN, SO WE JUST PARKED IT AS THE COST OF ENGINE REPAIRS IS EXTREMELY HIGH AND WE ARE BOTH IN OUR 70'S AND LIVE ON A FIXED INCOME.

Sorento 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

Every other year for this Kia Sorento up to 2014 have been recalled. Starts with a loud noise in engine on acceleration then lead to the engine failing. It is a rod or some part that is lose in the engine that causes the oil not to get distributed to the engine. This then causes engine to seize. All of the complaints of my car are the same as the 2012 Kias but they are not recalling the 2011. Wanted to know if anyone else out there had/has a similar issue.

I bought a 2011 Kia Sorento, had it 3 months, motor and tranny went out, found out after they fixed it that Kia only puts REMANUFACTURED motors and trannies in not NEW!!! I have no idea where they come from, this is wrong and unacceptable!!!! Kia SUX!!! I urge you to not buy a Kia!!!! They are junk, BOB SIGHT KIA in Independence, MO have extremely poor customer service and do not care about you or your vehicle after you purchase it!!!!! Please ask every ? possible when buying a Kia, the 2011 Sorento's have over 50,000 that have had trannies and motors going out!! I filed a complaint with the BBB.
