First occurrence noted in Nov 2011. While driving, had sudden loss of braking power, with brake light on, groaning noise, stiff braking motion. Was able to stop vehicle, although with greatly reduced power. Turned vehicle off, and problem was gone upon restarting. Took it in to dealer, who reprogrammed vdc. This did not fix the problem. Have had re-occurrence on numerous occasions, but noting increasing frequency. Had front brakes replaced last week. Noted same problem driving home from brake replacement. Called two area Nissan dealers today, and was told they were completely unfamiliar with this problem. Please keep in mind that I had the vdc reprogrammed at one of these dealerships in 2011. I have researched this problem, and see countless other consumers have had the same experiences. I would like to know how to fix this problem, definitively.

While driving the brake light came on spontaneously. When I pushed the brake pedal a loud grinding and spring like noise came from the Armada, and the brake power was almost completely gone. I pulled over to the side of the road, turned the vehicle off and restarted it after a few minutes. The brake light was gone and the breaks worked perfectly. I continued to drive and while on the interstate it happened again. This time I had to use the emergency break to stop. I took it to my mechanic and he told me the entire brake system is good, not one issue. He researched online and this issue has been reported thousands of times. There is even a video posted of the exact same issue. After calling my local Nissan dealer and the customer service department about this concern I'm waiting for a response from the case filed. However, the people who have previously filed all state that Nissan is not providing a solution. This is a huge safety issue! I don't know if you have any idea what it is like driving down the road in a very large vehicle with a 6 month old baby in the back and suddenly losing your breaking power, but it scared me beyond explanation. Something needs done about this problem before something horrible happens!

For the past few years. Every several weeks sometimes months. When I go to engage the brakes the brake light comes on and a horrible grinding from my from brakes can be heard. The brakes seem like they are barely engaging and vehicle has a hard time stopping. This mostly has happened at slow speeds. However, this same situation happened to my wife while driving on the express way with my 6 yr old child. She had to move over to the shoulder and very slowly try to come to a stop. I also noticed that once you turn the vehicle off and turn it back on the problem is gone. I've seen hundreds if not thousands of post online with people having this same issue. People have spent hundreds or thousands of dollars changing brakes, rotors etc... at dealerships without any luck resolving this issue. I cannot believe Nissan has not come out with a recall to fix this issue. Are they waiting for someone to be killed because of this problem?

I was driving along the interstate with the flow of traffic, and the brake light flashed. The car lost the use of the brakes, and I heard a loud grinding sound. This is the 5th time since I've owned the vehicle that this has happened. I've had to manage to pull over, cut the car off and restart to get the brake light to turn off and the grinding to stop. Luckily, I haven't had an accident because the five or so times this has happened I have been on the interstate.

This experience happened yesterday, September 3, 2013 with my family in traffic. I'm entering this report for the time it first happened when I was driving although it has happened more times for my wife who is the primary driver. In total this has happened over 10 times. One September 6, 2011 I was dropping kids off in school where the teachers control how we approach and allow the kids to get out of the car. I was in the next group to pull forward. As I attempted to brake, there was not any reduction in speed. The brakes made a hollow metal scraping sound but did not stop the car. I ran into the car in front of us since there was way to turn with school kids on both sides of the car. We got out and determined the SUV I hit was not damaged and we settled the accident with a lunch since we were friends. My front bumper was scraped cosmetically since the other vehicle had a trailer hitch. After restarting the car, I could not duplicate the problem. I have personally had this experience about 5 times in random speeds up to 40 mph approaching lights. I have always had to find a way to not harm people or crash. I've even driven over curbs into sidewalks avoiding people. My wife has had this experience more than myself. It's an amazing flaw in the vehicle that I've found no answer to online or at the 6 to 8 dealers I've asked. Nissan dealers only recommend service, act sympathetic and wait for you to back off the issue. Wow, I was amazed this is noted so much in this NHTSA database but not an investigation, recall, etc. This is an amazing problem that I've spoke about with any Nissan or infiniti owner I can and they have all had it happen and they have several crash avoidance stories.

When I tried to apply my brakes the brake light went on and I had no brakes. I had to swerve out of the way of other cars to avoid an causing an accident. Nissan has no recalls on this issue. Why" why? why? how many people have to complain before something is done. Or will it take people dying??" but there are hundreds and hundreds of posting on-line regarding this issue. But still no recall. This happened to me two weeks ago as well. Pulled the car over and turned off the car. Son of a gun...it reset the brake light and the brakes worked again. So, I just assumed it was a one time thing. But no it just happened again today. I was literally terrified about causing an accident and being able to get home to my kids.

I was coming up to a stop light and went to use the brakes and the pedal hesitated and would not grab normal like they usually do. The brake light was now on, so I decided to pull over in a parking lot and try and look to see what was wrong. I turned the car off and opened the hood to make sure I had fluid and that there was nothing obvious. Everything looked fine. I started the car back up and the brake light was not on anymore and the brakes were working. A few months went by and then it happened again. It has started to happen more frequently. I saw a trend where it would happen when I was driving for one-two hours on the highway and I would notice the brake light come on. I would make sure that I would start slowing down and trying to brake a lot sooner than I would normally have to. Recently this has started to happen more frequently even when I am doing short distance driving near my home. I have been to three different shops to look at my brakes and even spent over $600 to get new brakes and check everything out and make sure they are working properly, but it started happening a week after. I was told that I would have to take this to a Nissan dealer and that this is a manufacturer issue. I plan on bringing my Armada to a dealer later this week. I fell unless the brakes are not working right when I bring it in, they will not do anything. The brake pedal / brakes not working when I go to brake have happened well over 25 times in the past year. I hope it does not take something tragic to happen for Nissan to address this and issue a recall.

As I was driving entering the interstate from the on ramp a car in front of me hit their brakes. As I went to apply my brakes they made a loud grinding sound, the brake light flashed and the brakes did not work. I had to swerve to the shoulder to avoid a crash. Drove car to nearest Nissan dealership doing approx 20mph and avoiding other vehicles. When I got there I shut off vehicle and had the service dept test drive, but the problem had reset itself once the vehicle was shut off and restarted (found this out online afterwards when researching and discovering this is a common problem with Armadas.) they said there was nothing they could do since the problem could not be replicated. This has since happened three more times and Nissan is still refusing to assist with fixing the problem.

This is the second time the vehicle lost brakes, fortunately at low speed. Brake light comes on, terrible noise comes from the brakes and it is difficult to stop. Exactly 1 week ago, I had the same incident and took it to "just brakes". they changed all my brakes (600.00 later) and it seemed the issue was fixed (because I turned off the engine, which reset the brake mechanism).. this is very dangerous and Nissan seems unable or unwilling to address the problem. I could have killed people had there been more traffic. After turning off truck and turning back on again, the problem resolves. But I will never know when it will happen again. I feel like we are driving a ticking time bomb. This issue needs to be addressed.

This is the second time the vehicle lost brakes, fortunately at low speed. Brake light comes on, terrible noise comes from the brakes and it is difficult to stop. Exactly 1 year ago, we had several incidents and took it to a Nissan dealership. They said they found a code C1170 and performed a reprogramming of the computer. This is intermittent so it didn't happen again until almost a year later. This is very dangerous and Nissan seems unable or unwilling to address the problem. We could have killed people had there been more traffic. After turning off truck and turning back on, the problem resolves. But we never know when it will happen again. We feel like we are driving a ticking time bomb. This issue needs to be addressed as we have met 4 other people in our local area with Armadas and they all have experienced the same thing!

I've own my used Nissan Armada for (4) years. A month after I had it the vehicle brake light warning came on and I had no brakes. When I applied brakes the peddle went all the way to the floor making a loud crunching sound. I pulled over and turn off the vehicle and on again and it all went away as if nothing happen. The engine and the truck somehow resetted itself. I've taken this to the dealer several time and they said there was nothing wrong with my vehicle. I still have this vehicle and have not gotten rid of it yet due to the fact its now paid for. Its July 2013 and the vehicle is still doing the same thing but more often. I'm thinking about getting rid of it if there is no recall. I'm wondering if Nissan is waiting for someone to get killed before they recall these vehicles. I see that I'm not the only one having this problem.

It appears that we are not the only ones with a brake issue with our 2006 Nissan Armada and would hope something could be acknowledged that Nissan has an issue with their brake issues. I have taken it in to a dealer in sebring Florida last year and I believe I tried to have another dealership look at it before last year when it was in warranty. Of course, they don't want to admit there is a problem. They just want to tell you it is this or that...brake booster...cylindroid...sensor...well, the dealership in sebring did do something with the sensor and could not guarantee it would solve the issue. This vehicle is garaged kept and has only been driven 2000 miles since they did whatever they did. If you go online, you will find many owners complaining of the same issue. What does it take to do something to get them to admit there is a problem".....someone to die...seriously injured before anyone will do something. You would think that when you pay top dollar for a vehicle that you would quality and it to last more than a couple years before major repairs would have to be done. I have a 2003 Ford Focus that we bought used and has over 120,000 and well maintained and only minor normal repairs. The issue with brakes does not happen all the time...when it does, the brake light will come on and then as you try to brake....the brake peddle will go to the floor, make a horrible crunch noise and no brakes. We bought this to pull our 2006 forrest river toy hauler which we have only use up to or at most 3-4 times to daytona, which is only 3 hours away....what happens when the next time we use our trailor with the Armada.and no brakes" please I ask that you view others complaints to make a recall on what could horrific accident with lost of lives and could be prevented. We/others are afraid to drive this vehicle that we don't really want to get rid of.

Brake light flickered and, when brake was applied it made a loud grinding sound with greatly reduced braking power. It happened several other times and I took it to Nissan dealer, they said it was low brake fluid. This has happened twice again with the fluid level at proper amount. Took it to Nissan dealer and they say it is a bad brake booster. A review of Armada and Nissan titan message boards reveals that this is a common (and very dangerous) problem that is known to Nissan.

In the past week it has happened 3 times. The first time on the freeway, I noticed the brake light turn on. Then when I pressed the brake pedal it made an awful grinding noise both while being pressed and while letting off of the brake. The brakes were very slow to work. I pulled over checked the E-brake to be sure it was off and still the same thing happened. When I got to work I turned off the engine and had a co-worker check my brake fluid which was fine. Upon turning on the car it did not show the same signs, it "re-set" the brake light. It has happened twice more since then, once on a busy street, while at the redlight I turned off the car and again, all better. Then again yesterday on the freeway. I pulled all the way over turned off the engine again and yet again all better. This is unacceptable. Luckily my kids were not in the car and I notice the brake light come on so I can slow by letting off the gas then once slow enough use the grinding brakes to pull over. My husband took the vehicle to Nissan today and they act like they no nothing of this problem. Even wanted to charge us $150 for a diagnostic. They said that even if there were a recall it would not cover after the vehicle reaches 75,000 miles. What does that have to do with it. A recall should cover the vehicle at any point in its use. The manufacturer is responsible for the faulty brake system.

I have lost braking ability several times when this symptom happens. Brake light comes on the dashboard, brake pedal goes all the way to the floor, and there is grinding noise from the front end toward the wheels. Sounds like the brakes are spring activated. Vehicle braking ability is reduced to 10% or less. Turning ignition off/on resolves for short time, but not a permanent fix.

At 28,000 miles we were in our Armada driving on a busy road, I went to make a right hand turn, used my brakes, and they went completely to the floor, eventually braking but there was a delay of two seconds or more. A major grinding noise also sounded off. All the brake lights, slip, etc came on. Dealership said that my brake booster needed to be replaced. I was under the impression this was a manufactures defect since the brakes weren't stopping properly. The same exact thing happened again at 95K miles. I had my children with me this time!!!! I drove straight to pepboys, (which was closest to me). They told me they were getting a brake booster error! I called Nissan corporate to find out what they could do. [xxx] opened case number [xxx]. she stated I had to take SUV in to dealership. Nissan confirmed it was a brake booster issue again! Nissan stated they are not going to take ownership of this problem, because I'm out of warranty. This isn't a mileage or warranty issue!! Nissan already made their decision not to cover the cost of the faulty part because it was replaced at 28K miles. But this is the 2nd time the brake booster needs replacement. Doesn't anyone see there is a problem here"? I am asking for Nissan to take accountability but they won't. this could have been life threatening in both circumstances because an accident could have occurred and Nissan won't even take ownership and make this issue correct?? it's not the money that's at stake, it's a faulty part and my own safety! the sales man at Nissan said 300-400 of these have been replaced already?! that should raise a red flag I would hope" I have encountered this two times now and Nissan isn't owning up to the urgency in this matter! information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
