When driving 2 hours or more on highway and when entering in stop and go traffic, engine does not respond to the gas pedal for 3-5 seconds and then it darts forward. This happened 20 or more times in one occurrence. Took vehicle to dealer a second time, and they could not duplicate the problem. Dealer said nothing was wrong.
When ever the car is in stop and go traffic it begins to hesitate when the gas pedal is depressed and then lurches forward. The effect is like a rubber band stretching and then releasing quickly. Numerous close calls have occurred based on other vehicles assuming that we are allowing them to enter the road ahead of us only to see the car lurch and the brakes applied heavily.after each of these occurences speed control begins to surge and decline when engaged. Four visits January 14 2004 service department cannot duplicate problem. May, 26,2004 dealer found mass air flow sensor could be problem June 3,2004 dealer replaced mass air flow sensor. June 4 2004 returned to service department for same problem dealer service cannot replicate. Sept 14004 same problem dealer claims drove car 160 miles not in stop and go fopr more than a short period and cannot replicate problem.
While sitting at an intersection vehicle surged forward, then hesitated. This caused the vehicle to suddenly accelerate. Consumer's foot was on the brakes, was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and pulled over. Then, vehicle stalled. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic could not duplicate the problem.
