A road object which went under the car not over any tire struck the gas tank and punctured. The installed recalled added tank protector did not keep the tank from being struck and causing a leak. The car was repaired at the makers dealership without any recourse from the previous recall campaign. The recall added device did not perform as described in recall ?NHTSA campaign id number: 06V003000

I own a 2003 Nissan Murano sl AWD. The fuel tank shroud was installed in compliance with recall campaign 06V003000. The shroud is of such a bad design that it has broken in normal winter driving. The materials used are too weak and the design does not provide sufficient protection for the tank. Overall, this design is terrible, and does not solve the requirement of protecting the fuel tank. Nissan need to come up with a better design that better conforms to the profile of the fuel tank--the current design protrudes down too far and is too easily damaged.

I ran over an object in the road. The objet hit my front tire then the Nissan Murano under carriage. I drove about 3 miles, smelling gas, to a filling station. I pumped gas before noticing gas was gushing out the bottom of the car (rear on driver side). Five gallons of gas spilled, the fire department responded, cleaned up the hazmat & pushed my car aside. Nissan waldorf md deal is replacing the gas tank (3 inch slit in gas tank) & the bracket that cracked. The bracket was installed iaw recall campaign number: 06V003000

Recall 2003 Murano, repairs were made, two months later repairs had to be done at owners expense. The fuel tank protector was replaced on 3/22/06, per recall 06V003000. It was replaced again on 5/22/06 at the consumer's expense. The air bag light illuminated. The vehicle had been in water up to the wheels. The tech determined that water got in the floor board area and caused corrosion of in the air bag harness.

Apparently a small piece of metal in the freeway was picked up by the front tires and punctured the fuel tank on the Nissan Murano. Unknown by the driver, all of the fuel leaked out of the vehicle while being driven. Although the recall notice has been extended, Nissan refuses to cover the replacement of the tank. Nissan's stand is that the "shield" that is the "fix" to the puncture problem would not have prevented the tank in our car from being punctured because it protects the front half of the tank and our puncture was on the back half of the tank. NHTSA should take note as it appears that the shield is not acceptable as the answer to the problem if items picked up by the front tires can still allow a puncture to rear of the tank.

On August 17, 2005 at approximately 1:30 P.M. I was driving my 2003 Nissan Murano SUV on I-88 in Suburban Chicago at about 35-40 mph. When I ran over a piece of metal debris. This resulted in my vehicle's gas tank being punctured. (the tank has subsequently been replaced) no other damage was incurred. No one was injured. No other vehicles were involved. I do not know if the Nissan dealer kept the old gas tank. I saw the damaged tank after it was removed. There was a hole in it the size of a quarter. I did not realize the gas tank was made of plastic.

The lid on the outside of the fuel tank will not open. Usually when the consumer hit the unlock button on the remote key it worked. The consumer was unable to get it to unlock. The problem first occurred on September 21, 2005. The consumer was unable to fill the fuel tank because of this. When she contacted the dealership, they told her that there was no recall, but they were aware that there was a problem. They said the problem was due to a relay sensor.
