rough ride, front end rattle, loose steering

Avoided Nip vehicles for years because of incident 1941 thru 1945. Finally because I wanted a reliable, inexpensive car for my daughter I purchased a used 2007 Murano at an auction from GE Acceptance. Nice vehicle, probably a "program" vehicle I thought. Driving it home I noticed a rough ride, loose steering, and rattles from the front end. I expected I would have to replace the ball joints or struts. My mechanic said the problem is common on Muranos with 70,000 miles or more. He said it would probably require replacing most of the front end parts and cost $1200 - $1,700. He said he has done a bunch of them. He said he would use the OE parts as that is all that is available. He said to expect the same problem again within 70,000 miles. He said before 150,000 miles expect expensive transmission repairs. Is this the quality standards of the "reliable" Japanese cars? Then I started investigating obtaining a second key!! How did these folks get a reputation for reliability? How did these folks get a reputation for providing inexpensive cars? Why do people continue purchasing this junk? How can I be that stupid?
