CarComplaints.com Notes: While there are fewer "radiator leaked into transmission" complaints for the 2008 model year, they are starting to pile up. Buyer beware.

Nissan has extended their radiator warranty on 2005-2010 Pathfinders to 8 years/80,000 miles. However the average mileage for transmission failure for earlier model years is 95,000 miles, which conveniently (for Nissan) is just past the limit of their extended warranty. Owners beware.

Pathfinder SE Offroad 4.0L V6

Symptom: Engine will turn over but not run, due to the fuel pump failing.

I was told by Nissan that the fuel pump failure is caused by a short in the electrical system. It is a "known problem" to Nissan, yet they don't know where the short takes place, just that it happens. In other words, live with it and if it happens again tow the Pathfinder in and we'll slap another band aid on it. The first acassion was when I was on a fishing trip and the Pathfinder had to be towed 131 miles to Laramie, Wyoming interupting my vacation for four days!

Fuel Pump Failure #4

Died at my office, at least not hundreds of miles from a dealer.

Thisisn't a satisfactory solution and I am pursuing the Lemon Law option. Hopefully Nissan will work with me to find a reliable vehicle. Stay tuned.

Issue #3: Engine will turn over but not run, due to the fuel pump failing.

This time it died six miles off the highway! Had to beg the tow truck driver to drive up a dirt road to recover it. Towed it in to Taos, NM where a local mechanic worked on it with support for the Albuquerque dealer who sold it to me. They were unable to get it running and had to transport it back to Albuquerque to the dealer. Let me say that the dealer and Nissan were very helpful and covered this incident and even refunded me the expense of the earlier repair. They replaced the fuel pump, a computer and the ignition switch all at no charge. However, it seems as though they really didn't understand the problem, but it was repaired after being in the shop(s) a total of three weeks.
