2013 Nissan Rogue has known CVT transmission problems which Nissan service managers acknowledge but no recall, Replacement with the same defective CVT transmission costs from $4599-$7500 totally at owners expense which is very costly and impractical considering other 2013 issues, age of vehicle and projected longevity especially for a senior citizen living on a small fixed income.

Vehicle has been well maintained and transmission problem began before 50,000 miles. Most car dealers will not take the vehicle in for a trade on another vehicle as the Nissan CVT transmission problem is so well known on the auto industry. Nissan did extend CVT transmission warranty for the 2008-2010 to 10 years or 120,000 miles for Nissan Rogues for the same problem but refuses to extend the current 5 year or 60,000 miles for the 2013 Rogues which are the most troublesome model year for CVT transmission failures in addition to numerous other safety issues.

There should be a class action lawsuit by Nissan affected owners to repair or replace the vehicle at a reasonable cost. I have been told that the very costly JATCO CVT replacement that fits the 2013 Nissan Rogue also has the same known defects causing premature failure.

Transmission will not change out of low gear. Dealer said they don't repair or rebuild the transmission only replace them. Parts department said the most common cause was the stepper motor but they don't stock or sell them. Ordered a stepper motor online and replaced. Still will not shift out of low. Spoke with an engineer that rebuilds transmissions and he said it was most likely the valve body. Ordered a refurbished valve body and replaced at a cost of $750.00. Car still wont shift out of low. I have spent about $1K now and still no luck. Dealer estimated a new transmission will be about $4,500.00.Nissan knew of this problems and should be held responsible. There should be a recall issued and paid for by Nissan on CVT transmissions.

I have had trouble with replacing the driver side door hinge three times and when my transmission went. It wasn't working again. My vehicle has 120,000 miles. When I tried to accelerate uphill my vehicle would not move. I was on the bottom of a hill on a main road and the vehicle would not accelerate at all. This is unsafe and I'm lucky that no other cars were near when this happened. The price is quoted at 5,600 and I have multiple mechanics tell me that do not work on Nissan transmissions due to the problems. I don't know if I should pay to fix the issue or if I should buy a new vehicle, as I am a student and don't need to accrue any more debt at this time.

I'm requesting full reimbursement for the new transmission of $4,125.00. Plus, a few months later my axle had to be replaced and this cost $1,000.00. Now, as I am typing this, I have no air conditioning or blower in my car. I live in Florida. All of this has happened this year, since March 2022 to July 2022.

I am the sole owner of my 2013 Nissan Rogue. The body of my car is in good condition. No dents or scrapes of any kind. I have been the only driver of my car. I have taken good care of my car and had believed my Nissan would be as reliable as my prior Nissan Maxima which I had about 12-13 years. Retired the car when I bought my 2013 Nissan Rogue.

I am 64 and a single female. I am very upset over the costly expenses and will pursue this matter in the belief that Nissan will honor their automobile defects and also honor their loyal and faithful Nissan owners, such as myself.

Keeping faith,

Lisa

I was at a red light, turning, and got in the middle of the road when the transmission went out. I almost got hit. Nissan knows about this transmission going out, and NTSB knows also. This needs a recall, replace all transmissions. NTSB, do people have to die before you do a recall?

This car stalled on the highway with my teenage daughter driving. It was sheer luck that no one hit her from behind. She coasted to the shoulder where we were able to assist her. Took the car in and the Nissan dealer let us know that it needed a complete new transmission. With only 77,000 miles, the transmission was worthless.

I contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs and they will not do anything to assist us. They are simply saying it's out of warranty. There were earlier years (2010) Rogue's where Nissan did extend the warranty to 120,000 miles but so far they are not helping us. We've owned four Nissans and currently have a Murano which we will try to get rid of before 50,000 miles as it too has a CVT. If you research, there are all sorts of lawsuits out for Nissan vehicles with CVTs. And then they have the nerve to mail us "extended warranty" offers for the Murano. Leads us to believe that they know once past the 60k warranty, the car will not be operational much longer unless you are willing to constantly repair it.

I bought this car in 2017 with 57,000 miles on it. It was working fine. In March of 2021 I go to merge onto the highway, and I'm not getting acceleration. The RPM needle is bouncing around, I have the gas pedal pinned to the floor and the car behind me is blowing its horn into a heartattack. I pulled to the side of the road and a passerby stops and says let it cool down. I did and was able to make it the two miles home. This, along with a wheezing noise that I hadn't notice before got worse until the car became totally unsafe to drive. It's been sitting for the last 3 months while I contemplate what to do since I still owe on the car.

DO NOT BUY THIS CAR! MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AT ONLY 105K AND LUCKILY ITS GETTING REPLACED.

But after this I will be trading in the car... you think as many issues with this year and model... Nissan would help their customers... after this, I'll never buy another Nissan again.

My mechanic said the CTV engines are bogus. And I bought the worst year and make for Nissan... even with getting a new TRANS I'm still selling it before my warranty expires... I'm not dealing with this again!

DO NOT BUY 2013 NISSAN ROGUE!!!! I've had my car for only 2 years and it has a little over 109,000 miles and as I was driving the other day, it just went caput. I went to take it to the garage to see what was the issue and it died again. By the third try my friend glided down the small hill to the garage. My transmission is shot! WTF!!!!

Nissan doesn't give a rats ass. I called to complain and all they said is, sorry, it's not under warranty, and there is nothing we can do. It's my only car to get me to / from my job. I don't have the money to fix this. Nissan really doesn't give a crap about the consumers that buy their cars. It's going to cost $4200 to fix and like I said I don't have the money to pay for this. Do you think that the President of Nissan cares? NOPE. So please do not support Nissan. They don't care about you at all.

We purchased our Rogue about 5 years ago and I have to say that we experienced little to no problems at the time except that it started about 1-2 years ago to struggled to accelerate. About 6 months ago we noticed that the car was making a whining noise when we accelerated uphill. last week we were driving and not only was it whining, but it started losing acceleration. Took it to the mechanic and found out the transmission went bad. It really sucks because the car is only 7 years old. My brother informed me in the future stay away from CVT engines because they are known to give issues.

I bought this car used with 101k miles on it, May 31, 2018. Here it is August of 2019 and we have had progressive transmission problems since May 2019. Not even a year of ownership...still owe over 7k on the car and now I am looking at the cost to replace the transmission.

Had I known before buying the car that these transmissions were notorious for not lasting and breaking down I would not have purchased the car. Revving, hitching, shuddering, over heating, throwing codes.....and no recall on this transmission??? What the HELL??? I cannot afford to replace a transmission on a car I am still paying big payments on! What do I have for restitution for this???

Rogue S

  • CVT transmission
  • 170,000 miles

I bought this car in March 2016, in October of 2016 the transmission went out. Luckily it was under warranty so with a price tag of $4500 I only had to pay $450. It was given a warranty of 12 months or 12,000 miles. Now almost 3 years later the transmission went out in it again however this time it isn't under warrant. How can a 6 year old car already be going on its third transmission. I have had to spend so much money fixing this car it has been ridiculous. I still own $10000 on it with another few thousands of dollars to pay for a new transmission. It is frustrating to have to put in a second transmission not even 3 years after replacing it originally. I don't know what to do in this situation.

After owning this vehicle for almost 3 years, the transmission now needs to be replaced. We had purchased a extended warranty in which according to the dealership we went over our miles by 9000, therefore its now expired, so now its coming out of our own pockets. This vehicle is only 6 years old! How can it already need a new transmission? And the dealership will not give us any other options. We are so upset we will never purchase another Nissan again.

It is absolutely ridiculous that a transmission only lasts 100,000 miles. CVT transmissions suck and it has been well documented yet Nissan is not willing to rectify the problem. It sucks when you are paying on a car that does not run!!!

I was on a 8 hour road trip back from Portland. I had issues with my engine for about a year. My local dealership told me it was normal for my vehicle to whine like it did. 1/2 back from my trip my engine stopped accelerating and started going into limp mode. I got stuck overnight in Medford, Or since it was a Sunday. I took it to the local Nissan dealership and they diagnosed it as a transmission failure. It was a $4300 repair, luckily under my extended warranty. I had to leave it in Oregon for a week. Fast forward 2 years later, my engine begins to go into limp mode again. It turns out the Transmission cooling kit is going out on it too.

So far this vehicle has had:

New Driver's side Wheel Bearing @ ~ 25,000miles

New Transmission @ 72,000 miles

New Transmission Cooling Kit @ 95,000 miles

New AC Compressor @ 112,000 miles

Had been hearing some noise for a couple of weeks. Thought I need front brake pads....replaced. Still noisy. Took to HUNTER NISSAN...Transmission is BAD...Nissan provided the transmission since this was so close to the end of warranty period. Had to pay HUNTER NISSAN $970 to do the work...their statement, "the warranty is a contract between you and Nissan...we have nothing to do with that". This was my second Rogue. This was my fourth car from HUNTER NISSAN....so now my campaign is NEVER, NEVER NISSAN......and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER HUNTER NISSAN OR ANY OTHER HUNTER DEALERSHIP.
