Went to put car in reverse, brake was applied, because I was stopped. Went to move and the car lurched forward and could not brake fast enough. Wondering if anyone else if having same issued? Conditions outside was about 46 degrees. Dry surface.

problem #1

Dec 162016

Rogue SV

  • Automatic transmission

I am here to see if other 2016 Nissan Rogue car-owners have experienced what I did today: The sudden speeding forward of a car with the brakes applied. My dealership checked after the event and says there are no recalls or complaints on this yet.

While very cautiously entering a (dry and cleared) driveway in my 9-month-old cold car, and in frigid temperatures, I was braking to stop. My car suddenly lurched forward at a top rate of speed and crashed into a parked car in the driveway, impaling itself on that car's trailer-hitch. The centrally-located hitch managed to crack my entire grill and front of my car, uproot the hood from sitting flat, pushed one of the headlights to an angle, broke off the NISSAN badge and caused general havoc along the entire front due to cracks, holes, scraping and other defacing.

I tried to assess any responsibility to me as it may have occurred: I was wearing boots, had recently switched out my carpet mats for the dealer-supplied, all-weather ones, and reviewed whether my foot could've possibly slipped from the brake to the gas pedal. But, no, I couldn't explain it, other than it caught me completely by surprise.

This is my first winter with this car, although I am a seasoned driver and my last three cars have been SUV's or minivans. But, the speed at which this jerked forward was so sudden and so fast, that it made me suspicious that it was NOT my fault. Then, after handling the impact with the car's owner and leaving the driveway to go to the dealership to see if I should even be driving this vehicle, the car TWICE more started to lurch forward when I began to apply the brake while driving. After it warmed up a bit, the problem didn't seem to exist anymore, but I am afraid to drive it now, due to this problem. I don't trust it won't suddenly shoot forward and hit a person, animal or a building next time--or lurch out into traffic!

Have any other drivers experienced this problem with brand-new Nissans, or Rogues, or 2016 autos? If so, how did you handle it and did it cause a crash like this one? Also, how much did the repair cost you?
