CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2017 Nissan Sentra has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Sentra owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

I bought a new Nissan Sentra SV in September 2013. Car has rarely been driven with only 71 miles on it. I have 4 cars with 2 license drivers at the moment. Car is garage kept. Drove my car today 22 March 2014 and it started to make a loud whining noise from under the hood of car.

The loud whining noise can be heard inside and outside of car. I drove the car to the Nissan dealership where I purchased the car. The Nissan rep who wrote up the ticket heard the whining noise and the mechanic check the car the car out and told him the loud whining noise was from electronic steering. The mechanic said that this was normal. I never heard a loud whining from the electronic steering as normal. The weather temperate today was on 40 degrees and we had more colder days than this.

After surfing the web, I found out that the loud whining noise from the electronic steering has been noted on the Altima as well.

It sounds to me that Nissan has know about this loud whining noise from the electronic steering for awhile has not issued a recall notice.

This is my 2nd Nissan Sentra and I have been very pleased with Nissan. Now, I'm not so sure anymore.

Listen up Nissan and start really looking into this problem or you are going to loose a loyal customer. For all new Nissan car buyers, beware of this problem before you purchase your car from Nissan.
