door handle came off

The cover around the lock and the handle on the front driver side door started to feel loose around mid-March 2015...on April 9th, the cover around the lock popped off. "No big deal," I think to myself. But a little voice in the back of my head went, "Just you wait, that handle is next!"

And sure enough, the next day, I pulled the handle off trying to get into my car. I felt like the Hulk.

Since then, I've been either climbing in the passenger side and going over the middle console (quite a feat being 6' in a small car, see also: embarrassing when people are walking by) or having whoever I'm with get in the passenger side first and opening my door.

Ordered a replacement handle 5/3, I'm not sure if I'm going to DIY this project or call my mechanic and see what he says. Certainly not an earth-shattering problem and the car is completely fine otherwise, but it's annoying and stupid.
