CarComplaints.com Notes: Be aware the 2007-2011 Nissan Versa was recalled in the US in May 2016 & July 2017 for defective Takata airbags that are potentially deadly. Many Versa owners have reported problems getting Nissan dealers to complete the recall repair, due to scheduling problems & parts shortages.

If you are considering purchasing a 2007-2011 Nissan Versa, call your local Nissan dealer with the VIN# & ask if the airbag recall has been done.

I had on the heater, I was driving on the freeway and my car started to shake there was a burning smell a loud pop sound and then I span out of control into a ditch. I was living in sacramento, ca about to get off the highway to pick someone up from the airport. It was raining, but not hard at all.

The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Versa. While driving various speeds, the air bag disabled warning indicator illuminated and the air bag failure warning indicator intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the seat belt retraction was replaced; however, the failures recurred. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed that the cause of the failure could be the seat belt sensor or a fault in the air bag. The dealer was unsure if the part could be ordered and if the vehicle could be serviced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 07V094000 (seat belts). The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
