CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012-2017 Nissan Versa has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Versa owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

Heat shield rattling when took it in for 30k maintenance. Told was loose and fixed. Now, 9k miles later problem reoccurred, of course out of warranty. Now shield broken in many spots, cost of $100.00 to fix. Told it had rusted. Humm, interesting. Ironic if it is a known issue. Have another 2912' still under warranty, may call to just have it replaced. On my 39k Versa they just removed shield. Any suggestions?

Versa SV Sedan 1.6L 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission

This is the SECOND time now in 50,000 miles that the catalytic converter heat shield has broken and come loose. The first time I thought it was just a fluke. Now happening a 2nd time within such a short period of time, it's obviously a quality problem relating to design. At the current mileage, the car is no longer out of warranty. So, I have to shell out money on my 2yr old car to get this fixed a 2nd time. Very unhappy with the quality of this car (this and other problems) on a Nissan vehicle.

Problem was fixed by the dealer 14 Jan with no problem. Now it is 25 Apr 13, the rattling noise is back, but this time, even louder than the replacement shield. Nissan really needs to take a look at this.

Versa SV Sedan 1.6L 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 14,500 miles

The car suddenly began making a very loud, rattling metallic noise while stopped at a traffic light. After dealer inspection, it turned out that the tabs that hold the exhaust heat shield to the body of the car had somehow ripped off. The heat shield needed to be replaced under warranty. A quick, easy fix. Took less than 30mins.
