CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012-2017 Nissan Versa has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Versa owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

Both front coil springs snapped while backing out of a parking space where the vehicle was parked for 1 week. There is a recall for this exact problem.(recall #15V573000) this recall was expanded in 2017 (recall # 17V637000) the recall is for cars sold in New York state, however even though my vehicle was sold in New York state, my VIN number was not included in the recall. The recall is for the possibility of road salt corroding the springs, causing them to break. This car is driven in upstate New York and this is likely the cause of the problem on my vehicle. I would request that this recall be expanded to include vehicles manufactured at the same time as my vehicle and sold in New York state.

NHTSA recall 17V-637 - has already been issued for this exact issue. My daughter was driving this car in the snow in wilkes-barre, pa and made a right hand turn in a residential neighborhood (approx 15 mph), felt a jolt on the right side front wheel, then the steering became very difficult. She took the car to a mechanic in wilkes-barre, pa (where she has been in college for the last 2.5 years) and was told that both front coil spring had ruptured in her 2012 Nissan Versa hatchback. We have since discovered that this exact issue on this exact vehicle is damaging and dangerous enough to issue the recall referred to above. I proceeded to complete the "Nissan Versa model year 2012 hatchback front coil spring safety recall campaign form" with all the necessary documentation and sent it to Nissan America. I was contacted and told that my VIN number was not included in the recall. I repeated the VIN and they assured me that this particular car was not covered in this safety recall. I hope to gain at least partial relief of this $913.54 repair of a known safety issue in this car. I have attached the claim form and documentation for your review. I would like to hear from you about how to proceed.

My car is, what the dealership calls, grounded. Stating it is unsafe to drive. I received a recall. I have been without my car since then. It sits in a lot at the dealership with, what the parts manager told me, with a whole lot full of my year, make and model for this same reason. The 'other problem' is the computer model, which has been on back order since 08/2017. On national back order I was told, which could be the next recall. I am checking by my VIN if this is the case. There are at least 8 recalls for this year Versa, depending on the VIN.

Noise coming from springs when going over any bumps especially when it is cold. Dealer drove vehicle at 35000 miles in 2014 and said they could not reproduce the issue. I drove from dealer and was able to reproduce. Saw 2015 recall #15V573000 and took car to different dealer and they state my VIN is not on the recall. Car still has same issue, Nissan will not provide documentation for my car to show that coils are not the same lot that is on recall.

I was never notified of a recall on my vehicle (no. 15V-573) that was issued 09/10/15. It appears that it is still incomplete. How are they allowed to get away with not providing a remedy in a timely manner. And now another recall (no. 17V-449) says they don't even have a part to repair the defect (takata air bag inflator rupture). The first recall says the defect could result in damages that could result in a crash and the air bag deploying could result in death. What options are available when you can't trade in the car? also, I'm not allowed to take part in the class action because I haven't taken my vehicle to the dealership for repair yet (because I can't). Now I'm very anxious every time I get behind the wheel of my car.

2012 nissa Versa hatchback. Front driver's side suspension spring broke Sunday, April 16th, 2017. Vehicle's odometer was just over 56,000 miles at the time. Travelling for the weekend, put on about 70 miles before it broke. The spring broke while in park. Unbeknownst to me at the time, this spring was part of recall 15V573000. I had never received any notification regarding this recall, so I had the vehicle serviced at a local shop. Then, after later learning of the recall, I contacted Nissan multiple times requesting any form of reimbursement, even partial reimbursement. I was denied because the repair work had not been done by them. They claimed they were "not in a position" to offer any type of reimbursement.

I had the exact same issue as a recall that was supposedly solved 11 days before my car was manufactured. My car has been on the road for less than 5 years (it will be 5 years this December) and is still under 60,000 miles (it has about 52,000). Both of the front springs recently broke, and I am from one of the states who issued a recall for Nissan Versas manufactured from 2006- November 11, 2012 (mine was manufactured on November 23, 2012). This type of issue cannot be caused by user error, and the recall that does not cover my vehicle specifically mentioned that the front springs could be corroded by salt on the road for things like snow- something that is a big issue in my state. I believe that the springs should be covered and/or recalled at less than 5 years or 60,000 miles, especially so soon after they allegedly fixed/changed the part outlined in the recall. I started hearing clunking noises that increased over the course of a week in sound and frequency, only when I turned my wheel far (in either direction) whether stationary or in motion, regardless of speed.

The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Versa. While driving various speeds, there was an abnormal popping noise emitting from the front passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 15V573000 (suspension); however, the repair failed to remedy the vehicle. The contact was concerned that the abnormal popping noise was associated with the recall repair. The dealer diagnosed that the protective plastic cover under the vehicle had loosened and needed to be torqued to specifications. The contact stated that the plastic cover was tightened to specifications, but the noise was still evident. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.

Salesman/dealer did not disclose vehicle maintenance report when requested. Was told that the vehicle was not involved in any accidents. 1) vehicle rolls back after it is put in park. May have been associated with previous recall. 2) when putting car in gear, can feel tugging in the floor board of driver side. Called recall.gov and was told that there were 4 recalls on the vehicle in which 2 had already been performed. Called Nissan dealer and scheduled an appointment for service for 12/31 to rectify those issues.
