CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012-2017 Nissan Versa has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Versa owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

I have taken it back to Nissan several times since I bought it new in 2012 telling them its the transmission I was told no its this its that was even told it was the way I was driving it. They didn't agree that it was the transmission until AFTER the warranty had expired. I'm sick can't work don't have $6000.00 to fix it.

Versa S

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

I took the car to Nissan in Rapid City, SD to have a piece repaired on the door handle and the oil changed. I mentioned the terrible jerking I experienced when the car shifts. I was advised the transmission runs on belts and has a driver memory. I never found a solution to the intense jerking in colder weather. I did find that warming the car up helped as this was happening in colder weather more so.
