CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2014-2017 Nissan Versa Note has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Versa Note owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

Versa Note

  • CVT transmission
  • 95,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I am a Military (USAF) Honorably Retired/Disable Veteran. My 2014 Nissan Versa with 95,000 highway miles, on it due work. where I commute long distance to get to. CVT transmission started slipping and jerking when driving up hill. I took my car to Ted Russell Nissan (Knoxville, TN) dealership.

This problem has a long history and became very serious when the Versa, hit the 60,000 miles mark. I took this car to Ted Russell Nissan, in which this dealer service department did not address the problem and refused to fix the transmission defect.

My 2014 Nissan Versa with 95,000 highway miles, on it due work. On June 10th, 2017, my Nissan Versa, CVT transmission started slipping and jerking again, when I was driving up hill. I took my car to Ted Russell Nissan (Knoxville, TN) dealership.

The Ted Russell Mechanic said I need a new transmission. The mechanic could not even tell me what happened or what the cause of the failure was.

Ted Russell Nissan (Knoxville, TN) Dealership said $3496.00 to replace. The Mechanic said I need a new transmission. He stated that he was surprised that I was able to get this many miles on the car because those transmissions are a piece of sh*t - direct quote.

The mechanic could not even tell me what happened or what the cause of the failure was.

Ted Russell Nissan (Knoxville, TN) Dealership said $3496.00 to replace.

Please help me!!

Versa Note S 1.6L

  • Manual transmission
  • 84,677 miles

My 2014 Nissan Note's manual transmission decided to grenade itself. $4,000 for a new transmission and clutch with only a 12,000-mile warranty(Dealership). I had the fluid changed only 10,000 miles prior with no issues with the transmission. Was driving at 80 MPH on the highway when it popped out of 5th. Tried to put it back in, but it would just pop right back out. I finally got to the side of the road and tried to see if any of the gears worked. Was able to get the car moving from 1st through 3rd, but barely. Had it towed to the dealership I bought it from and they told me the transmission completely failed. Not under warranty. I sadly didn't have much of a choice and had no interest in rolling my debt into another loan for a Sentra that I'm sure would have the same issues. I plan on getting the car repaired, pay it off, sell the POS and never buy Nissan again.

Versa Note SV

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54,000 miles

This car keeps disappointing me. I bought it in august of 2015, had 40k miles on it, felt like a good deal. Loved the car, drove a lot to and from work and here and there and ended up putting 15k miles on it before the transmission died in April 13, 2016.... Got the car back about a week later and was told it was just a bad transmission. Fine. Fair enough.

Well. About a month later, I was driving home from a wedding rehearsal and my car died getting onto a highway, which was terrifying. This was May 25, 2016. I had put maybe 2000 miles on it. I was pissed. Went back to the dealer and they were just like "Oh thats weird, it shouldn't have happened again". I was at 58900 ish miles at this time. So again, covered under the factory warranty.

And here we are again, in August. Car died this time on August 19, 2016 coming home from the airport. Died on the highway where AAA cannot tow so that was fun. Had the car towed to the dealer went in the next day and I just got the car back yesterday (September 2, 2016).

Went to leave for work this morning and my muffler was dangling from under my car. Didn't even have the car back for 12 hours.

I had called Nissan Corporate about this issue and they advised me to do/not do certain things then denied telling me what they told me. I contacted the BBB about this issue seeing as its the third time.

I'm 900% fed up with this POS car. DO NOT bother trying to get a versa note. They're cute and nice looking but so not worth this nonsense.
