CarComplaints.com Notes: How can we give the 2006 Camry our "Seal of Awesome" when the NHTSA data shows engine problems in the triple digits & multiple deaths/injuries/crashes etc?

The problem with NHTSA data for the 2006 Camry is that for months on end, the news media repeatedly told the public that several Toyota models had an unintended acceleration defect, & to go to safercar.gov (the NHTSA's website) to file a complaint.

So, the NHTSA received a disproportionate number of complaints about Toyota unintended acceleration issues because of the national news media attention, to the point where their data is unreliable taken in context with any other vehicle that did not receive national news attention.

In other words, it's our opinion that the 2 deaths & other injuries/fires/crashes reported to the NHTSA are significant, but (unfortunately) not out of the ordinary for any vehicle, once you factor in the effects of the extended national media coverage of Camry unintended acceleration issues.

CarComplaints.com typically receives more complaints per day about vehicles than the NHTSA does, but the news media did not repeatedly say "go to CarComplaints.com to report your Camry acceleration problems" like they did about the NHTSA -- so although we have less complaint data than the NHTSA for the 2006 Camry, our data for the Camry is a far more statistically accurate representation of the Camry's reliability than what the NHTSA data shows.

My complaint is that the rear speaker covers have crumbled. It started with a crack then a hole. But the cover crumbled as soon as it was touched.

I have two complaints. The major one is the rear speaker covers. They started in June of 2013 with a small hole. Now there is a large hole and the other one is cracked all across it. I am assuming it is melting. The other is the fabric is coming apart near the rear door curvature toward the back. Regular glue can't be used, it will burn.

Dashboard turned sticky and melted in the Florida sun. When I touches the dashboard my fingers stick and turn black. I worry every time I gets in the car the melting dashboard could be a safety issue. The dash reflects the sun from the windshield and it causes this reflection so it sometimes becomes hard to see. It's frustrating knowing there's nothing I can do about it.

Our 2007 Toyota Camry's dashboard is melting. It is very sticky. It has been this way for 6 years. We weren't sure what was wrong at first, because we never saw anything like this before. We bought this car brand new. The sticky dashboard reflects the sun and since we live in Florida this is very dangerous. We are also concern about airbags too. Is there a recall for this car part?

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the rear window head lining is loose. The side molding is defective and is not properly holding the liner. A report was filed with the manufacturer. The dealer will supply a new head liner and two side panels, but the contact is responsible for the $300 labor charge. The failure and current mileages were 58,000.

- the contact noticed a rattle and heard squeaky noise coming from the front dash and center console of the 2006 Toyota Camry on the day of purchase. The vehicle will decelerate while driving and vibrate when first turned on. The dealer replaced the dash after keeping the vehicle for two weeks. However, the contact did not see any work was done on the vehicle. The noise still occurred. The contact took the vehicle 4 - 5 times to the dealer with no resolution since the vehicle was purchased in June 23 2006. The contact stated that the vehicle was only giving 23 miles per gallon, no way near the 40 miles per gallon advertised by the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 30 miles, and the current mileage was 10,200 miles.
