CarComplaints.com Notes: How can we give the 2006 Camry our "Seal of Awesome" when the NHTSA data shows engine problems in the triple digits & multiple deaths/injuries/crashes etc?

The problem with NHTSA data for the 2006 Camry is that for months on end, the news media repeatedly told the public that several Toyota models had an unintended acceleration defect, & to go to safercar.gov (the NHTSA's website) to file a complaint.

So, the NHTSA received a disproportionate number of complaints about Toyota unintended acceleration issues because of the national news media attention, to the point where their data is unreliable taken in context with any other vehicle that did not receive national news attention.

In other words, it's our opinion that the 2 deaths & other injuries/fires/crashes reported to the NHTSA are significant, but (unfortunately) not out of the ordinary for any vehicle, once you factor in the effects of the extended national media coverage of Camry unintended acceleration issues.

CarComplaints.com typically receives more complaints per day about vehicles than the NHTSA does, but the news media did not repeatedly say "go to CarComplaints.com to report your Camry acceleration problems" like they did about the NHTSA -- so although we have less complaint data than the NHTSA for the 2006 Camry, our data for the Camry is a far more statistically accurate representation of the Camry's reliability than what the NHTSA data shows.

Popping and loose steering while turning, stopping, accelerating or just driving. The failure is the upper intermediate shaft universal joint, the occurrence is constant while driving. The intermediate shaft had to be replaced.

2006 Toyota Camry 4 le steering intermediate shaft noise, company sent technical service bulletin ST001-06 dated 02.16.2006 to dealers for replacement under warranty. Owner never made aware of this. I became aware of 'steering knocks' two months ago, while vehicle was still in warranty (under 36,000 miles). Told by dealers service 'adviser' that this was normal 'play'. now problem worse but replacement refused, because vehicle has 36,700 miles (one month and 700 miles over). Have safety concern if not fixed.

Car constantly pulls to left. Cannot release tension on steering wheel for fear of going off the road. Toyota refuses to acknowledge this problem. Afraid to take on a long trip for fear of driver fatigue.

2006 Toyota Camry's steering wheel pulls to the left. ***** the steering wheel pulls while in curses. The consumer has to hold the steering wheel firmly to maintain control. The vehicle pulls while driving on bumpy roads and more frequently on the highway. Sometimes it also pulls while braking. The vehicle seem to always be parked at an angle, although the consumer pulls straight into parking spaces. The steering wheel seems stiff as if there is not enough power steering when making sharp turns. The consumer has also noticed a noise underneath the vehicle when turning into tight spots.

Steering wheel pulls left and right, more frequent on freeway especially going around curves and have to hold wheel firmly. Pulls sometimes when braking and driving over small bumps. Steering wheel is stiff at times when making sharp turns in tight spaces as if there is no power steering. Car wobbles too much when going over small bumps. 8jb
