The airbag light comes on out of nowhere and for no reason. Stayed on ever since. I did nothing and no accident what so ever. Took the vehicle to Toyota grapevine Texas and they told me that the spiral cable went wrong. Had it tested by another mechanic and found it no problem at all. Toyota has recalled Corolla for every model between 2000 to 2008 but 2005 Corolla on the airbag issue. And based on my experience and what I have researched online, I think a recall for the airbag issue of 2005 Corolla is due.

I was sent a letter from Toyota notifying me that my 2005 Toyota Corolla S is part of the tekata air bag inflator module recall I was instructed to take my car in to the local dealer to get this issue fixed. The Toyota fix which was not a fix at all was to disable my front passenger air bag and hang a warning sign not to have anyone ride in the front passenger seat. It has been nearly three months that I have not been able to use my front passenger seat. I feel three months is more than long enough to have this issue resolved. I only own one car and need the front passenger seat to provide transportation for my family. I have called both Toyota corporate and the local dealer and not getting any resolution.
I received a safety recall from Toyota on my car. The safety recall was for the front passenger air bag inflator assembly. The notice I received indicated to take the vehicle into the dealer & they would replace the inflator assembly. My daughter has the car at college & took it into the dealer for the safety recall. The Toyota dealer did not replace the inflator assembly but instead turned off the air bag & put a sticker on the dashboard that no one could ride in the front seat. While this takes care of Toyota's liability it does not solve the problem with my car. The dealer mentioned that Toyota was not going to replace the part at all. I spoke to Toyota & they said that they would eventually replace the part but did not know when.

I have received notice from Toyota that my vehicle may be unsafe due to the installation of a defective air bag. I called the dealership where I purchased the vehicle to schedule service so as to avoid any accident or injury to myself, my family, or others. I was informed today that no dealership in my area (including competitor dealerships such as Honda) have been set up to deal with this process until the end of January to receive any service or to take any of the recommended steps in the advisory letter. I am registering this complaint to ensure that if any accident or injury occurs as a result of the defect before I can receive the appropriate service, that Toyota cannot claim I did not respond in a timely or appropriate manner. I am deeply disappointed by this response and hope that the NHTSA will take steps to ensure that something like this does not occur in future. I consider the delay to be unacceptable and adding to the anxiety of knowing that this risk may occur.
My 19 year old was driving back to college, the car in front of her stopped short to avoid another crash, she reared ended the car at 47 miles an hour. None of the air bags deployed. She was unconscious for 20 minutes, suffered a concussion. I contacted Toyota they said the air bag was not recalled, asked to conduct a data analysis: Stating she swerved to the right and that the dtc light was on and that we "had ample time to have taken the vehicle to a repair shop to have the problem addressed". we had the car inspected a few days prior to this accident and there was no indication of any lights on the dash. I believe Toyota is wrong in accusing us on the problem. I believe they are covering up their problem. My daughter is a college athlete and is unable to participate due to this issue, she is still suffering and to have Toyota state this was our problem is wrong. We bought this car for her because we believe it was safe. You don't let your children drive a bike without a helmet and your don't let your college age students drive a car with air bag lights indicating that they need service...updated 12/29/14
Sir, I bought a new Toyota le year 2005 in Maryland and since the beginning I've always brought my car for maintenance to the same dealership to which I was very pleased about it. On Monday, November 17th, 2014 my son was driving our car southbound in lane 2 of Georgia avenue when another driver pulled out of a secondary road of the home depot parking lot and went directly into lane 2 in front of our car. My son was unable to avoid the other driver and struck his car in the rear causing little damage for the drivers car. The impact caused a lot of damage in the front end of our car. My son did not suffer a fracture or a severe injury but he got a cervical sprain, in addition to developing back pain, left knee pain. The impact was so bad that our car was deemed a total loss. But interestingly, the air bags did not deploy at all! if the airbags were defective as it has been for other Toyota cars then I may have had a defective product that was supposed to be fixed or replaced so they would have worked properly in case of an accident that's why we trust in the manufacturer and in the written instructions in the manual...updated 12/29/14
Dealer doesn't have part and won't order part unless I bring the car in first and have air bag disconnected on passenger side. Explained I don't carry passenger's and don't need this done, just get the part and I will bring car in. Talked to Toyota and that's the conditions set by them to get part replaced. It will cost me at least a full day by going twice to get part replaced as dealer is an hour away from me. I hope it's not the case but it feels as if the manufacturer is deliberately making it more difficult to have defective part replaced to prevent them from paying more claims?
Washington, D.C. - the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urges owners of certain Toyota, Honda, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Chrysler, Ford and General Motors vehicles to act immediately on recall notices to replace defective takata airbags... the message comes with urgency, especially for owners of vehicles affected by regional recalls in the following areas: Florida, puerto rico, limited areas near the gulf of Mexico in Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Louisiana..., [case#:[xxx]] the case # is the record of my call to and conversation with the recall division of Toyota usa. I have requested of Toyota corporation that they furnish me with the manufacturer information for the airbags installed in my Corolla at manufacture. The reason why I requested this information should be apparent from your site as well as from the hearings in congress and the response from takata. Toyota corporation told me on the telephone that they could not give me that information.. I find it interesting that Toyota can issue product recalls by VIN numbers; but can not find manufacturing information using my VIN number. Is there any way to require a car manufacturer to supply parts information by manufacturer's name? having worked in a manufacturing environment, I do know that such information is required to be kept by us manufacturing. I suspect that Toyota usa has access to such information. Since NHTSA regulates highway safety and I think correctly, believes that tanaka should recall all airbags in the affected years, I am hoping that you can help me to receive my airbag information since you list 2005 Toyota Corolla as affected in the recall in high moisture us states and territories. Any weather check of the past two years for N.C. should demonstrate that we are a high moisture location. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
