I pressed on the stalk one day to disengage the cruise control and it broke off. I usually use it a lot to avoid tickets so I did without it for several months because I figured it would cost a lot because they would have to pull the steering wheel. Recently I got the recall notice for replacing the cable for the air bag so I had it replaced then. They still charged me for a half hour of work but I hate to think how much it would have been if it had been a stand-alone job. I didn't tug very hard on it. Seems like a piece of plastic ought to last longer than that.
