Going downhill or when I let off the gas and start to hit the brake, the car surges and accelerates. What I think is happening is the down shift thrusts the car forward making braking tougher. Anyone else have this problem before?

Only had this happen to me once and never thought to do anything about it until I just got an e-mail that other people had the issue. I was decelerating for a red light (was travelling maybe 10 km/hr) when my car surged and then accelerated forward. Thank goodness I just stomped on the brakes a few times and was able to stop just in time for the light. Hasn't happened since but is definitely sketchy.

My Toyota Corolla has been in the shop for the fourth time now, three times in the past four weeks. First time it crashed into another car after releasing the brakes, it surged forward. Second time, it surged forward and bang, the Timing chain broke. Valves were bent, journals damaged, ECU was fried plus a lot more. It took them three weeks to fix. Got the car back and after 3 hours of having it, It did not want to accelerate, back into the shop. They forgot to put something back into the engine. Now tonight, The car would not stop, the brakes did slow it down, but I had to throw it into neutral and shut the engine off with the key. I started it back up, the Idle RPMS went over 2500. Its back in the shop again. Should I ask for a new car??????
