Same complaint as another user....routine service with 77,000 miles only. No missuse or offroading and I need an engine replacement, really? All that the Toyota service center could tell me was that they are unsure why it happened but that the oil was completely black in color as if the engine burnt up. $7,100 used engine replacement that has 20,000 extra miles and a 12/12 warranty is poor at best. No warning other than engine light that had been on for four days which is hardly enough time to get a routine service scheduled! Toyota should be ashamed of themselves as my tires have lasted longer.

FJ Cruiser

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,000 miles

Bought a 2007 FJ Cruiser brand new . Wife has been driving it all local, no off road or on the beach. That is why it only has 68,000 miles. We had changed the oil every 3000. Recently 2015 the dashboard light came on. We brought to a dealer they told us that it was the sensors. Well $400 later sensors replaced but dashboard light still on. Now the problem with that is , the truck can not be inspected. So we brought back the dealer and was informed that there is build up of oil in the engine and would need to replace the motor. The dealer quoted us $8,000 for a new motor. I called Toyota corporate office and they said there was nothing they could do. My question: Should a truck built like this need a new motor at 68000 MILES are you kidding me ?

FJ Cruiser 4.0L Litre V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 58,885 miles

November 19th 2012 my FJ has a check engine light on, diagnosis is the right side catalytic converter is bad. Dealer replaced the converter without repairing the underlying cause. This is the third set of cats on this FJ. Only premium fuel is used in this vehicle, all scheduled maintenance is up to date. Dealer representative lied about a "bad run" of Toyota catalytic converters.
