This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
On 7/18/15 at about 11:10 am in the newly paved parking lot of the lowes, latham, New York, the alloy rim of driver side front wheel split (rim into two pieces) causing the tire to blow out and the vehicle to graze the a light pole. The tire, wheel and rim did not hit anything prior to the rim failure. There were no potholes or obstructions in the lot. Even in grazing the light pole, the tire did not make contact with the pole, only the outer fender flare made contact. This was a spontaneous failure of the rim. Insurance investigation confirms the rim failure. Toyota denies rim failure. The rim and all parts removed from the vehicle are available for inspection.
