The oil cooler line sprang a major leak in which all the oil leaked out with no warning. This was the original rubber hose which had never been replaced and which I, as the second owner of the car, was never warned about. This occurred long after the extended warranty. The car was driven to a repair shop and I am afraid of any major damage to or excess wear that may have occurred.

So far the engine seems to run fine but I have not had any inspection done on the engine components. The problem was fixed by installing the all metal replacement part.

Oil coolant pipe burst causing all oil to drain out. Had to pull off the road and add oil to get to repair shop.

Driving on the freeway, car sounded awful. Check engine light came on - no oil light. Got off at the next exit and drove a couple miles to a gas station. Put oil in the car and it was pouring out the bottom. Had to tow to a Toyota dealer who claims the engine is ruined and needs replaced. Can see online that MANY 2009 Toyota Highlander owners have had the same issue. This SHOULD be a recall! We are told it would cost easily over $4k to get a used engine and this car is only 10 years old. Looks like we are going to sell it for parts, which will cause us to get a new car and have car payments. Really disappointed in Toyota - we have been loyal customers for years.
