The 3rd rear seldom used left seat came out of track and broke. Toyota says it cost over a $1,000 to repair. I have 67,0000 miles on the vehicle yet is 2 years old. The seat has been used maybe four or five times in that period. If it were something to do with the engine, transmission or whatever part that moves the vehicle I could see it being my fault for the high miliage but an interior part that is seldom used should hold up much longer. I like Toyota's but this is bullshit. They have to replace the entire track system which cost $275.00, the rest is in labor. The dealership has been very good but they have to go by Toyota rules.. I can't bitch at the dealership because I bought the Highlander in another city but this dealership has been taken care of the servicing since they are in the same city I now live in. Any suggestions!! I would appreciate it.
Update from Oct 9, 2014: As previously mentioned.I brought my Highlander to Toyota to have the 3rd rear seat fixed at first they said it would cost a $1,000 but the Service Manager had one of the specialty Techs look at it and he managed to fix it for $275.00. There is no way that the 3rd row rear seat should have broken. Most people like myself rarely ever use it and there should be more test on it to find out if more people will have the same problem. If the rear seat breaks that easily and an adult or child is sitting in it when an accident occurs it could cause serious injury or even be fatal
