hesitates at acceleration from stop

While making a Legal U-turn, I was trying to get up to speed with the flow of traffic, but the vehicle would not accelerate, resulting in a rear-end collision, and totaling the vehicle.

Highlander SE 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,500 miles

When accelerating with 1/3 of the pedal down, the car from a stop or slow speed sometimes fails to pick up speed. This has happened a half dozen times in 8000 miles. It is going to the dealer next week and I hope it can be fixed. Since it is intermittant I have my doubts. My 2004 highlander has a similar but less of a problem which which couldn't be fixed even with a new computer module.
