When I test drove the Highlander XLE, I didn't notice any wind noise. It is one of the reasons I bought the car. However, we were not driving with the windows down.
After picking up our brand new Highlander XLE, on the way home, any time the car goes over 40 mph there is a horrible whistling sound that comes from the passenger mirror. If you put your hand in between the car and the mirror, the whistling will stop. If you fold the mirror in, the whistling will stop. I would like to know how this could have passed all of the QA testing? I bought a $40,000 car and I can't drive with the window down!! I see all over the internet where people are complaining about this, and dealerships are saying that it is a known problem, but until Toyota posts a TSB, they can't do anything about it. I haven't seen a fix yet.
