My 2019 Rav4 hybrid has a Toyota advertised fuel tank capacity of 14.5 gallons. Till date, virtually all my fuel stops have resulted in no more than 11 gallons of fuel. I would like to raise this matter to NHTSA and urge NHTSA to investigate matter further. The biggest question I have is if there is a law or safety rule that Toyota must follow surrounding this issue? my concern is that if any residual fuel (which in this case is greater than 3 gallons), may cause safety hazards for drivers and this issue needs to be fixed.
Unable to fill 14.5 gallons as advertised.max fill is 11 gallons. Brought it to the dealer and they continue saying the car is fine and that there's a "reserve fuel" we can't see. They are unwilling to fix this issue
After the low fuel warning system comes on the tank will only take between 9.2 to 9.7 gallons. The fuel tank is a 14.5 gallon tank and should not need filling until the vehicle goes over 500 miles. We usually get just under 400 miles per tank full. Somehow there is 5 gallons left in the tank when the low fuel warning light comes on.
When filling the gas tank, the pump will stop before the gas tank is full, usually 2-3 gallons short of being full. This happens every time I try to fill the tank since I bought the car in may, 2019. This results in more frequent stops at the gas station or making efforts to try to top off the gas tank by trying to slow down the gas being pumped in. With a very slow rate, the gas pump may not shut off then leading to fuel spillage.
Fuel tank is defective. Does't accept a full tank of gas. 3/4 at most before pump shuts off. Not getting miles per tank/efficiency that was advertised. Filed a case with Toyota and dealer but no fix available. Problem started as soon as I drove it off the lot in May 2019.

Whenever I fill the car with gas, it doesn't get completely full. It leaves the tank about a quarter from full. Also, the car doesn't accelerate well. It hesitates.
Since I purchased this car in late August I have not been able to get more than 8 gallons of fuel into the 14.5 gallon tank. Due to this issue the car has also only been showing it's getting around 25 mpg when it was advertised between 35-40. I have also been having computer issues and key fob issues with the car. Toyota corporate acknowledged something is wrong but has no eta on a fix. I oftentimes do not feel safe driving the car as I never know how much gas is in it as the tank and computer systems are so off.
Toyota has misled consumers with 41mpg and falsely stated the size of the fuel tank. It's supposed to be a 14.5 gallon tank, however it will only hold 10 gallons even when completely empty. If I try to put in more fuel in after 10 gallons it spits out fuel as if over full. I bought this hybrid Rav4 in an effort to make less frequent full ups. This defect is causing me to fill up more often than non hybrid vehicles.
My 2019 Rav4 hybrid was filled initially by the Toyota dealership as part of the purchase, and was gas gauge registered 'full'. everytime I have filled it after the first fill has gotten filled to about 8/10 of a tank on the gas gauge before the gas noozle clicks off. I usually fill up when my gas tank is just right above the empty gauge line. The car is advertised to fill up to 14.5 gallons
I am not able to fully fill up the fuel tank as expected by Toyota specifications. It can put barely 9 gallons (Toyota communicate tanks can have 15 gallons) when the tank is empty and after the pump stops. The fuel level does not always go to the top of the dashboard indicator but I cannot put more fuel since pumps stops. I tried multiple gas station and many ways to fill up the tank, the issue is always there. The car range does not go over 500 miles when it is sold to do more.
The reported gas tank size of my 2019 Rav4 limited purchased in August 2019 is rated for 14.5 gallons. On each occasion of low fuel, warning or less than 50 miles before empty notice, each fill up has resulted in ten gallons or less. 13 Sep - 528.6 miles driven fill up was 9.485 gals range 534. Mpg = 55.7 25 Sep - 418.7 miles driven fill up was 10.185 gals range 579. Mpg = 41 7 Oct - 460.8 miles driven fill up was 10.343 gals range 585. Mpg = 44 18 Oct - 430 miles driven fill up was 10.058 gals range 577. Mpg = 42.7 28 Oct - 423.5 miles driven fill up was 9.619 gals range 560. Mpg = 44 7 Nov - 420.5 miles driven fill up was 10.071 gals range 545. Mpg = 41.7 16 Nov - 309.3 miles driven fill up was 7.808 gallons range 539. Mpg = 39.6 25 Nov ' 382.7 miles driven fill up was 10.685 gallons range 568. Mpg = 35.8 the tank size as indicated does not equate to the need to refill to capacity of 14.5 gallons. Where or what has happened to the 4.5 gallons of tank fuel that we seem to not being able to access?
Unable to refill a full tank. Refilling when fuel empty light on should able to fill about 12 us gallons according to user manual but the car consistently able to fill only 10 us gallons when fuel empty light is on.
When refueling, the fuel tank never reaches full capacity. Fuel pump always shuts off at about 3/4 tank. Fuel tank advertised to hold 14.5 gallons but does no fill up passed 10 to 11 gallons.
Two weeks ago the car came on with an error message stating the hybrid system had failed. I brought it into the dealer and they replaced a relay valve and said they had been having the same problem in cold weather with other Rav4 hybrids. Now today, I went to start the car and it was listing about 6 error messages, everything from the brake power being low, engine failure, etc. The car wouldn't start and had to be towed to the dealership.
The gas tank will not fill up. If it is dead empty, the most we can get the tank to except is 10 gallons. The vehicle is suppose to except 14.5 gallons. Because of this issue, we are having to fill the tank up more often. The vehicle specs state it should get 507 miles per tank and we get around 400 miles per tank.
My car has a 14.5 gallon tank. I have only been able to put 8-9 gallons max into my car. The pump shuts off/reads as full. I should be able to get 500+ miles in my hybrid with a 14.5 gallon tank. I average 380 mp fill up. I paid big money for this car and would like Toyota to fix the fuel tank problem.
I purchased the new 2019 Rav4 hybrid on 11/29/2019 at prime motors in saco, Maine. It currently has 725 miles on it. When I attempt to fill it it won't fill all the way. It's advertised to have a 14.5 gallon tank but only holds about 10 gallons. The dealership advised me to keep pumping after the pump shuts off. This is very bad advice as it could overflow and cause a fire.
Vehicle does not function as advertised, ECM appears to change shifting, hybrid, and gasoline usage at lower temps. Pre-collision system malfunctions with any visibility reduction, causing the vehicle to suddenly brake at highway speeds or to not brake at all with radar cruise active. Also have same issue as others with not being able to fill tank more than 10 gallons of 14. Mileage is as low as 24 mpg for a whole tank, driving very conservatively.
I bought my new 2019 Toyota Rav4 hybrid xse and took possession on January 3 2020. Since then, I have refuled multiple times and noticed it would not take more than 9-10 gallons of gas from empty. I found myself refueling more times than my previous vehicles. When researching prior to purchase, the vehicle says it has a fuel capacity of 14.5 gallons and 580 miles per tank. I have never been able to get more than 9-10 gallons and it has always shown gas range in the 400 miles per tank. It has never given me anywhere close to 580 miles per tank. I took it today to the dealership after calling Toyota on January 30th and the dealership said that all cars have a 4 gallon reserve tank. This was their response to the problem although I am sure nobody would like to find out how many gallons a car has in reserve after the refuel light is on for obvious safety reasons. When I refuled all my previous cars, the capacity was at least what it said on the manual or more. It has never been a difference of over 38% from what the manual says to what this vehicle can actually take when refueling from empty with the refueling warning on and the refueling light on. It is dangerous to try and follow Toyota's official fuel capacity and range for this vehicle. If you follow the official range stated by Toyota in the manual and vehicle information, drivers can run out of gas thinking the car has actually 14.5 gallons instead of 9-10 and a range of 580 miles instead of the actual 400 mile range.
I purchased car Sept 2019, since purchasing I have been unable to fill my gas tank to full capacity. I only fill up 9 gallons before it kicks off, my range has never been more than 450 miles when I was told 550 miles before fill up. This apparently was a problem before I purchased by car but was not disclosed at time of purchase. Reported to dealership and just keep getting told waiting on a fix from Toyota.
