Toyota had a recall back in 2014 for rusted frames, for which my 2004 Sequoia was eligible. The recall would either replace the rusted frame or coat the frame, depending on how bad the current rust was. In my case, Toyota said the rust wasn't bad enough and coated the existing frame. In early 2019, I purchased a new (Ford) truck and was planning to sell the 2004 Sequoia for $6000-$7000 book value. I put in about $300 worth of parts that I could do myself (bad coils, O2 sensors, etc) to get it ready to sell. There were a couple of things that I needed a professional to do, so brought it to my local auto repair and was told that the frame was rusted out and the truck should not be sold.
My complaint is that, had I received a replacement frame rather than just a coating in 2014, I wouldn't be in this situation. The truck only has 115k miles on it because I received a company car a couple months after purchasing the truck, so it didn't get used much for the first few years.
I went to Toyota to see what they could do and they just basically said the recall campaign is over - no help at all.
