The brakes suddenly activate with the vsc trac lights and alarm going off, on the slightest turns and while going downhill. I hate having my wife and kids drive this van like this.

Antilock brake system (ABS) warning light and parking brake light are on simultaneously, at all times once car is started. Issue was diagnosed as faulty ABS control module requiring replacement. Vehicle has never been in an accident, and to the best of my knowledge, has never even required that the ABS be utilized.

The van has several times, without warning, applied the brakes while a light comes on the dashboard and a beeping sound is heard. The last time it happened my wife was merging into traffic and it caused a dangerous situation. I have researched and found this to be some sort of traction control system malfunctioning. It seems to have happened to many people, and many people complain it can potentially cause a life threatening situation. This problem has came on while normal driving or in my wife's case while accelerating to merge into traffic.

Traction control has randomly engaged 4 times in the past week, at speeds as low 35 mph and on the highway at 65 mph. Pavement was dry and we were driving straight, not turning. Braking is applied causing temporary loss of speed and pulling steering to one side for about 1-2 seconds. Control returns and trac control light continues to blink. Does not result in an error code.

When driving the vehicle regardless of speed or driving condition the traction control system randomly activates (it is always when going around a curve, but road conditions are dry, speed could be 70 or could be 20, there is no loss of control by me as a driver). This causes the car to abruptly brake. The computer system shows no issues when the dealer looks at it. When I deactivate the traction control system using the button the van will still beep loudly indicating a loss of traction control. It will also kick off the cruise control, but does not activate the automatic braking feature. This has been happening daily for 2 months with multiple visits to repair shops.

I was driving 65 mph on the highway going straight on dry pavement and suddenly a buzzer sounded, the vsc light came on, and the steering wheel and brakes were taken over by the vsc system and the car started weaving out of control. I could not steer or break the car. The situation is unpredictable. It easily happened on curvy or bend road and has happened 3-4 times in this year. It is scary.

The vehicle was in motion. Driving up the mountain. When the traction control sensors went on and braked and began moving the steering wheel. Alarms where going off when no danger occurred. The next two hours the sensors would alarm. Did not matter how slow or fast we drove it would brake going up and down the hill. Took car to dealership and they stated that it was a yaw sensor malfunction part number 89180-45010. $900+ charge

A/C system has had problems since 2010, they replaced the belts & told me it was fine until the warranty expired.I have had recalls on all the doors, airbags &nav system replaced three times, 2013 A/C was replaced, 2016 A/C replaced again, & A/C is being replaced for a 3rd time along with two other recalls. Tire warnings are persistent. I've never worn out tires or brakes before, except with this vehicle at a rate of every 25,000 miles. (4times td)

While driving the stability warning light comes on, starts beeping loudly and my brakes and steering wheel lock up. This has happened multiple times on the freeway, on freeway entrances with a slight turn and even while just driving straight. Each time, the weather was clear and the roads are dry. This happens whether I am driving at a slow speed entering a slight turn on the highway anywhere from 20 to 40 mph and has recently happened while driving about 50 mph on a dry highway just driving straight. The car has also began beeping and flashing the stability light without locking up the steering and brakes. I have almost cause a few accidents with cars almost rear ending my van and me almost sideswiping other cars while this is happening and I have no control of the car. This is frightening! I have had my struts replaced, right drive shaft, brakes, tires, alignment. The repair shops say they have not been able to duplicate this issue when they drive it. There does not appear to be a recall on anything to do with this which is shocking. I have a Sienna van so I can carry multiple people with me. I have my infant grandchild with me in this van each day as well as my teenage daughter. I have an appointment with maita Toyota tomorrow morning (1/25/18), we'll see what they say, but honestly, I feel Toyota needs to stand by their cars and fix this issue at no charge. There are complaints describing this exact issue all over the internet so it is not an isolated problem. This form asks for the date this happened below, I'll add todays date, but it has been going on for over a year.

My slip indicator light comes on as I round turns and the engine seems to RPM down. This happens at normal speeds, on dry roads. Unable to drive on the highway, because when slip indicator light comes on, it also applies the front brakes at highway speeds. Other owners of Toyota Sienna are also having the same problem. This afternoon I entered the highway and was going about 60-65 mph when my car suddenly started accelerating on its own, I repeatedly depressed the brake, even standing on it in an attempt to slow the car. The car was making a revving sound and the brakes were doing nothing to slow the car, it just kept accelerating. Finally, the brakes seemed to engage, the revving stopped, and the car seemed normal again. I pulled off the highway and called aaa to have the car towed to mechanic. Car has about 105,000 miles on it and it's been very reliable up until now. I will report to Toyota and I will not drive this car again, much less let my children ride in it.

The car's vehicle stability control (vsc) will activate unexpectedly, braking hard and causing temporary loss of control. There is also an audible alarm and the vsc light turns on. Occurs intermittently when driving between 30-50 mph, typically on a gentle curve like a freeway interchange. Has occurred as many as 9 times on a single drive, and has caused a couple near accidents. An internet search of online forums shows that this issue is common in Siennas after 100,000 miles. Thus far my Toyota dealer has claimed they are unable to reproduce the problem.

Driving various speeds, up hill or down and into corners especially the traction control or stability control system would engage the brakes and cut engine power, alarm beeping. Happened several times over a one hour trip. Streering would pull to the right. Driving conditions were such that the system should not have engaged at all. Dry, warm, newer tires driving recommended speeds for the road. All drivers on the road were at risk with the sudden breaking and steering pulling into another lane.

I was driving my Toyota Sienna 2006 today morning and the driver in front of me abruptly stopped. I was maintaining a safe distance and immediately hit my brakes. Although the brakes seemed to engage, the car accelerated and very badly rear-ended the car in front me. Has this happened to anyone before with the car auto-accelerating on it's own?

Sienna 6-cyl

  • 95,500 miles
On March 13, 2015 driving on I-95 South in a 2006 Toyota Sienna van the cruise control would not disengage when the brakes were applied approaching an exit ramp. The vehicle would not slowdown in spite of pressing the brake pedal as hard as possible. Moving the control lever forward to disengage the function was also not successful. The exit ramp was inclined so the cruise control accelerated the engine in an attempt to maintain our speed at 70 mph. The vehicle went thru a stop sign, bounced off the guard rail and came to a sudden stop with the engine not running. The impact destroyed the right side of the vehicle and the stopping was so abrupt that the cell phone (in my shirt pocket)flew out ripping the pocket off the shirt. Neither the front nor the side air bags were deployed. Skid marks made by the vehicle's right front tire (and possibly the rear right tire) prior to and after hitting the guard rail indicate the brakes were working on at least this side. Skid marks attributable to the left hand tires were not noticed.

ABS light and brake lights are on. Take the vehicle to a mechanic and they said that it is not the first Sienna with that problem and when both lights are on, the ABS system is disabled.
