I Purchased my 2007 Toyota Yaris (Blue) in 2010 from a private seller.

I probably first noticed the paint on the roof becoming dull around two years ago and put wax on it the best I could, but it started rapidly deteriorating in the last four months or so. About a month ago I noticed the paint was a strange color-rust! (I may have noticed this earlier if I wasn't so short!). The paint is both cracking and peeling on the roof but also it is starting to appear dull and spotted on the bonnet and dull on the mirrors.

I took it to a panel beater to repair it and he took one look at it and deemed it a 'crappy respray job' post suspected damage.

He quoted me around $2600 (AU) or around half the resale value of the car to repair.

My car has spent time in the sun, but is shaded 2-3 days/week and I've seen much older cars with no such damage. I'm not sure what options I have now.

I have been happy with the way the car drives, but after four recalls, a squeaky drive shaft and now this, I am regretting my purchase a little!

I loved my Yaris from the time I purchased it . It fit me to a tee and I was proud of it. Now it is ugly. I am retirement age and did not count on having to paint this car. Everyone I know who has a car this age does not have this problem! I went to the Toyota place and they said my extended warranty would not cover it. Today I stopped to buy breakfast before work and there was an identical blue Yaris 2 cars over, bad peeling paint job and all! This should be repainted by Toyota!!

I have a pretty 2007 metallic blue Yaris Toyota and the roof is peeling off like a bad sunburn. I have 48,000 miles on it and the dealership said its because I don't detail it often enough...Sounds very fishy to me...It just happened and I've never seen this on nice cars like mine. confused and they don't want to own up to fixing it. It happen overnight too...it wasn't gradual peel...really weird.

My wife's 2007 Blue Yaris is experiencing the bubbling clear coat on the roof too. Called the local dealership about it and they had never heard of this happening before. I'll print out this page of complaints to refresh their memory. Am going to contact the customer service people at Toyota now.

I am new to this site and would like to know if anyone has had any success with getting Toyota to fix this clear coat pain peeling problem as posted by others with a Blue Toyota Yaris 2007.

I believe the car is out of warranty however it's only 6 yrs old and from what I can assess from other posts Toyota used cheap paint for these models which causes this problem!!!!!!!

Again has anyone had any success with this issue or any known recalls for this problem.

Ridiculous. This started with small little sections in 2010 that I dismissed and didn't think was a big deal. I washed my car every week and waxed it every four weeks or so...until...the clear coat literally started coming off in chunks. It's a horror to try and use a microfiber sponge or cloth to wax your car when the clear coat is chipping off into the sponge so you're rinsing and reusing more and more wax and money to keep your car from doing exactly what it's DOING ANYWAY.

Finally went into the dealership last summer, when my car was in the low 30k miles, and they were optimistic to me about covering it, that they just needed to document it. So a little man with a camera came out and took pictures, checked mileage, asked me questions, and said he'd get back to me.

OF COURSE, they didn't get back to me. When I called, they said it could take up to 90 days to get an answer, so I waited, then got caught up with life. Now, I finally went back two weeks ago, more than a year later, and not only is my car up to 70k miles, conveniently out of all warranty options, but they treated me like I was nuts for thinking they would pay for it, AND they made me feel like a liar when I said I came in previously because THEY LITERALLY LEFT NO RECORD OF IT. Convenient for them, huh?

Anyway, this time they got back to me in about a week even though they said they should know by the end of the day, and left me a six minute voice mail repeating that they wouldn't cover it. So now, I have a disgustingly peeled off clear coat on my tiny Yaris that Toyota is blaming on the "environment." To get it all fixed, most places are looking at $1,500-2,500 to redo the clear coat and fix the sections where the blue is even fading now, and it's a 2007! I've had and seen cars that are 10+ years old that NEVER were pampered like this car was--not even waxed once--and they haven't had a single peeling section with it outside all day, unwaxed.

I attached two pictures of my own car, and one of another person's. I've run into five people now with their cars in the blue color, 2007 hatchback and all, with the exact same issue, and it's driving me nuts. It's upsetting to have to riot and be mean to get this covered through them, but seriously, it's an issue of customer satisfaction and recognizing when something isn't right and FIXING it rather than making me feel like an idiot and that this was my fault. I can tell you right now, that I never see myself ever buying another Toyota ever again, used or new, because I never want to face an issue like this in the future.

Myself and a friend both have a 2007 Yaris that the clear coat started peeling on the roof! Now mine looks discolored and horrible! I took it to the Service Rep and they told me it was normal wear and tear. After only 4 years, that is ridiculous. I am very disappointed and have started a petition to get as many Yaris owners as possible to sign up (who have the same clear coat problem). I truly believe this is a manufacturer defect.

The paint on the front and back bumpers is peeling off. I can understand it being bugs on the front bumper, but not the back.
