It's been peeling for years. There's been no recall, even though online there were quite a few complaints. I didn't know who to complain to until I found your web site. This is a factory defect that should be fixed. I guess I'm just to nice for not saying anything. I am disabled and CANNOT AFFORD to have it repainted. This is probably the car a will keep for as long as it runs because I can't afford payments. I really feel like I am stuck with a factory flawed paint job. It would be nice if one of the RICHED COMPANIES in the world would take care of one of their customers.

Thank You, Patricia

Paint on rear bumper start fading, chipping, cracking and pilling off. I have seen many similar problem on Yaris especially blue color. It muse be manufacturing issue with this particular color of body paint. Toyota should address this.

The clear coat started to peel on the roof and now in 2018 has progressed to the hood and rear, even the side of the car. Nothing I tried would stop it. Needs to be completely repainted. Yes it's 10 years old, but this peeling is odd to me. I've not seen on older cars I've owned.

The clear coat started peeling and spot bubbling off this summer. Took in to Toyota yesterday and they will not cover due to car being older than 3 years and 36,000 miles. This is just on the roof and not on the door frames or rear quarters yet. It looks like it is spotted or bubbling up more than just peeling away, but when washed it peels it right off.

I can't believe this happened, stopped at a fast food restaurant came out and saw it. Peeling on the front hood and roof of the car? It's blue in color and now looks awful, used to look good.

My 2008 Toyota Yaris (blue) paint is peeling very badly. It needs to be completely repainted. I can't believe there aren't others that have had this same issue, and that there isn't any type of class action lawsuit. I've seen other blue Yaris cars with the same exact problem.

The peeling started on the roof and progressively got worse. I called Toyota and was advised to take it to a dealer to have it looked at.

I drove 30 miles to a dealer on Oxford, MS. The service manager came out and stated she had never seen anything like it. She took pictures and said she would send them to Toyota and it will take a few days. She told me it would help to get estimates and she would send them in with the pictures. She even suggested a body shop, which I got an estimate from.

I took the car to 3 body shops. All 3 said it was either defective topcoat or the substrate wasn't properly prepared. In any event, they felt Toyota would take care of it.

I turned scanned and emailed the estimates to the service manager per instructions. I waited 2 weeks and started calling - never got a return call. I finally emailed and called Toyota and complained about the lack communication. I received an email saying someone would contact me within 3 days. About 1 hour after I received the email, the service tech called and said Toyota felt it was an environment issue, not a defect.

I told her about the body shops indicating it WAS a defect originating at Toyota and explained these experts actually looked at the car - and someone from Toyota, making the decision, is looking at pictures. I called Toyota again and was told there was nothing they can do. I'm having the car painted .... but am DEEPLY disturbed by the lack of quality and the lack of customer care Toyota. I'll not purchase - nor take a rental car - with the Toyota name. They will not have the opportunity to get me again.

Live in Miami, FL. Late last year noticed the paint job on the car going south quickly. Showed it to some reputable body shops and was told the only recourse is a repaint. In driving around town, noticed that "every" Yaris of about the same age had the same paint flecking issues (numerous cars). I've gone online and have noticed this complaint in several forums. It should be noted that in the same driveway, we happen to have a Nissan truck, which happens to be 3 years older, exposed to the same environmental conditions, and the body and paint are still holding up well! I don't really buy the Toyota "environment" line as a result.

Toyota has dispensed with quality body and paint! My Yaris appears to have Leprosy. Toyota should be embarrassed with their little road ambassadors motoring along with dry, blistering and peeling bubbles of clear coat flipping in the wind; like so much dead skin needing to be shed. In addition to small patches of rust beginning to bubble up near the rear quarter panel/bumper seam. My Yaris does sit in a parking lot during work hours, but previous auto paint has survived the same circumstances. My next car will not be a Toyota. Several auto paint companies stated that an '08' SHOULD NOT need to repainted (no kidding!). BOOOOH Toyota!

My 2008 Blue Yaris is peeling like it has a sun burn. The car is inside my garage when not in use. I contacted Toyota expecting this factory defect to be corrected only to be treated and lied to, saying it is my fault. They offered me a 10 percent discount on repainting just the roof for $3,000 dollars. The peeling is spreading to the body. I want to join a class action against Toyota. I only have 41,000 miles on the car. They tried to say it was the environment, or that the car had been repainted. They said, if they did repaint the car it would never peel again. What does that tell you about the bad factory paint.

I purchased the red Yaris from the dealer NEW in 2008. It has been cared for and never has had any issue or accident outside of the paint. The FACTORY paint is peeling off in huge patches on both sides, the hood, and front bumper. It is now red and white... Can not sell or trade this nice car because of a Toyota paint flaw. Toyota refuses to assist though hundreds of red Yaris owners have the same complaint. I would love to join a class action lawsuit.

I hope more people come out and complain about their paint problem. I've definitely seen several blue Yaris' in my city with exactly the same problem. The paint starts to peel on the driver's side and spreads throughout. This should not be happening.

clear coat and paint peeling clear coat and paint peeling

The perception of Toyotas like cars for life turns out to be just a myth. My 2008 Toyota Yaris in red, which I have kept under immaculate care from day one, has begun peeling off not only its clear coat on the whole roof and side doors but even its base coat is peeling off in big patches and exposes a white surface at the front area (above the front bumper).

Completely horrified after noticing the problem, I rushed to my local Price LeBlank dealership in Baton Rouge hoping it can at least offer a 50% discount to re-spray the car. I was very politely referred to contact directly the manufacturer's customer service, which I did just to be told (again sooo very politely) that they cannot do anything for me since my Toyota Yaris is beyond the three years warranty.

I have been driving earlier than my Toyota Yaris’s purchase a 17 year old Honda Civic and its paint was as good and whole as almost of a new Honda. Among hundreds other cars in our office parking area it is ONLY my 6 years old Toyota Yaris with such an ugly paint like some sort of bad disease had spread over it. I don't live near chemical plants; don't park under trees or in other hazard areas so it is definitely either a defective Toyota's paint or a wrong way Toyota’s workers painted the car. In either case it should not be the customer having to pay for Toyota's low quality.

Toyota needs to acknowledge this problem and come clean. They charge a premium price and have a short crappy warranty. The least they can do is stand behind their name which represents quality to many people. Maybe they are just cutting quality and flying high on their old reputation while lining their own pockets.

I bought my 2008 Toyota Yaris YRX Caribbean blue color new. About 2 years ago the paint started to bubble on the roof. Now my car is so unsightly, the problem has spread to the bonnet, tail and doors. I have approached Toyota and been told they will pay 50% towards getting the car resprayed but only if I pay the other 50%. I am a single parent and cannot afford this but also do not see why I should have too! I have been told by Toyota and by their chosen body shop that it is a problem with a batch of clear coat they used.

My brand new car that was going to be my last car due to my age will not even last another 5 years 2008 Toyota Yaris color Caribbean Blue clear paint on the whole roof & bonnet drivers door is coming of , looks dreadful & i am so annoyed at the way i was treated by staff at my Toyota show room i was told that due to me living close to rail line that the train break dust has damaged the paint when i said to the guys what about the cars that park at rail stations 5/6 days a week he had no answer so then i was told that i must have traveled behind a chemical truck .I am 65 years old & a widow but i will fight for rights on this issue . I have put in complaint with Toyota with other printed out complaints that i found on line with same problem & same color yaris's there seems to be a problem only with this blue 2007 & 2008 models also i have joined a petition that is on line for the yaris , they only need another 30 people to sign & then they submit the petition for Toyota to recall these cars it is obvious that the mix was wrong or the oven time was wrong . I want my car resprayed by Toyota I am not doing it through my insurance & i am not going away .

Update from Mar 9, 2014: sorry need to change mileage I have only done 2800ks , still waiting to hear from Toyota .

Roof of the Yaris looks like hell. The clear coat is peeling away in minute chunks, dulling the roof, especially on the driver's side. It feels rough and will not wax at all.

I have a RAV 4 with a similar problem, and had the roof painted on it, but now the hood is going. The Yaris has been a good car, but the clear coat problem has left a bad taste in my mouth about ever buying another Toyota. It's not worth repainting, as I plan to get another vehicle in a year or so.

I take my car to be detailed pretty often and last month I noticed that the paint on the hood is peeling off really bad that everytime I wash it the pieces of paint come off. This problem is now spreading to the body of my car. I took my car to a car body shops to get an estimate and they all told me that since my car is a new model this should not be happening and that they paint job my car has was not done right.
