I had a 2005 Town and country but had to purchase another car because someone hit my car and totaled it. I purchased the subject vehicle in late 2012. I had to replace the transmission in 2015 and not quite 2 years later, the new rebuilt transmission is slipping. The transmission was replaced by a Chrysler dealership. I was on my way to pick up my son. As I increased speed the engine started making a loud whistling noise (kind of). The RPM indicator was going back and forth. Going 25 mph it was almost at three. It took a very hard effort to get the car to go 40 mph.

Transmission intermittently locks into 2nd gear and will not shift up or down until vehicle is restarted. This issue has happened approximately 45 times in the last 6 months with the cold months of December and January each having 10 instances. This problem happens just after starting vehicle and putting into drive. The vehicle may thunk or lurch forward just after starting motion which indicates the transmission has malfunctioned. There are no codes thrown to the tcm. If it does not happen in the 1st 30 seconds it will not happen. Manufacturer has not fixed the problem as they cannot duplicate but it is so intermittent that they will never be able to duplicate. Dealer seems unwilling to discover what the problem is. Dealer states manufacturer has no records of such an issue while there are many on the internet who have had the same of similar issues. Vehicle has been into the dealer multiple times with same result. First visit the dealer replaced a cylinder head for a known cylinder #2 misfire issue.

Chrysler is hiding a major problem with their transmission to engine software. The van is unsafe to drive when it hesitates and and then jolts forward. This occurs both when the car is at a dead stop or when changing lanes in heavy traffic. The engine jumps to high RPM when you give it a little gas, but then it does not shift to the proper gear unless you let off of the gas pedal completely. I have been trying to resolve this problem with the dealerships for 3 years. I think they don't know how to fix the problem because Chrysler doesn't know. The lurching forward and hesitation between the transmission.and engine RPM is a very serious safety problem!!!!!!.

The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler Town and country. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated to approximately 80 mph without warning. The contact's wife depressed the brake pedal to slow down the vehicle, but it became uncontrollable and would not slow down. The contact reached over and turned off the engine. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and restarted after a few minutes; however, the engine rpms immediately increased to 4,000. The contact disconnected the battery and reconnected it after about one minute. The vehicle restarted and the failure did not recur. The failure was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,600. Updated 12/01/15; updated 4/10/18

When backing up I came to a stop. I shifted from reverse to drive. The van felt like it was hit from behind. Something in the transmission causes a hard bang. This happens about 40% of the time. I had it into 2 Chrysler dealers and they say it is normal. They reprogrammed the computer several times to no avail.

When traveling to Florida from buffalo, the battery light on the dash came on just outside of orlando, Florida. It slowing started to affect the vehicle with the transmission not shifting and resulted in the engine running at 5000 RPM just to maintain 55 mph in a construction zone with no pull off to safely leave the highway. The battery finally died when we reached our destination and it was the alternator that had malfunctioned. The temperature that day was over 100 F. it could have caused an accident had I not overworked the engine.

1 week after I bought my van the car started vibrating when the vehicle was stopped (waiting at the light). I went to the dealer to ask them if there was a recall for this problem they first say that there was no problem and then I read that there was a recall for some vehicles having debris on the engines, so they replaced half of the heads in the engine. The vehicle stopped vibrating, but then I notice that when speeding or slowing down the vehicle does not responds to the change in gears or isn?T accelerating like it should. Also while coming to a stop the transmission would not downshift causing the car to lunge forward. It would vibrate when coming to stop.
