CarComplaints.com Notes: The top problem trend for the 2014 Escape is transmission failure at around 70k miles.

This is relatively low mileage for an expensive transmission failure ($4,500 average to fix), but unless the trend becomes more established, we are only awarding the 2014 Escape our "Beware of the Clunker" badge for now.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. While driving 75 mph, the rear driver's side door opened without warning. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 16V643000 (latches/locks/linkages). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. While driving approximately 15 mph, the rear passenger door opened independently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the pawl spring was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. A month later, the rear driver door opened independently. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the diagnosis was the same. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 16V643000 (latches/linkages/locks). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that both the front driver and passenger side exterior door handles failed to latch securely until accessing the reset button located inside the door. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where both front door handles were replaced for the second time. In addition, the exterior rear driver side door handle was replaced one time. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 28. Updated 04/22/2016
