On July 10 2008 at 5:30am or there about our 2000 Ford Expedition caught on fire. At this time the car had been sitting in the driveway for about 10 hours. It was parked in front of our garage which also burnt our garage. By the grace of god a neighbor was on his way to work and woke us up and called 911. Myself my wife and my six year old got out of the house safely. Had the car been parked in the garage the likelihood of us been able to safely make it out of the house on time would have been slim to none. We called Ford motors and filed a complaint. However, they told us that they were unable to help us at this time. And that we should expect a letter from them (Ford) in about 10-12 days. Once we receive the letter then we could respond at that time. In the mean time neither our insurance company or Ford were willing to help us. They truck was serviced regularly.

My 2000 Ford Expedition caught on fire on 6-19-05. My daughter & I had just gotten home. 30 minutes later the truck caught on fire. It was just sitting in the driveway. Thank goodness it was not in the garage. The fire dept came to put out the fire. My truck was totaled. I received nothing from Ford. Not one dime. 3 yrs later I still get notices in the mail asking to bring my truck in for the recall. I never rec'd one notice before then. It is too late. I have emailed Ford but they do not care. I lost my truck. If it wasn't for my insurance then I wouldn't have a car. I am a single mother and because of an error on Ford part, I had to start over. Ford should have to be responsible for this tragic event. Me & my daughter to this day are scared to death to park in the garage or up near the house. My driveway was burnt.

Prior to our 2000 Ford Expedition being recalled for the cruise control problems, we experienced electrical problems with the interior lighting group; radio, windshield wipers, etc. After a rain, the windshield wipers would not work and the blower motor would remain on or be on without ignition activation. The battery has run down because of this! we recently experienced the problems again and took the vehicle to our mechanic who recommended an electrical specialist. He diagnosed the windshield seal leak as a contributing factor to the junction box-GEM module malfunctioning.

My 2000 Ford Expedition was parked in my mom's driveway while we went to the beach. We returned 4 hours later and the horn was blaring and smoke was pouring out from under the hood. The fire department disconnected the battery and I had it towed to the Ford dealer, who sold us the car. I refused to get back in the car with my kids, after I spent $700 to repair the burned out wiring, and ended up trading it in for a brand new Expedition. The recall notice came out in Jan -05, after my incident. My friend's F150 went on fire in the middle of the night with the horn blaring - which caused me to investigate the recall. Some other fires have involved horns blaring. I want my $700 back.

On Jan 31, 2007 in the parking lot at 9935 walker in cypress, ca. The incident (fire) started approximately at 5:30 pm. The 2000 Ford Expedition was parked for approximately 1:00 hr before the fire started, a passer by saw the fire start in the left front side of the engine compartment. My son driving the car at the time came out from work and the whole engine compartment was engulfed in flames. Orange county fire and cypress police department was on site. When I arrived the fire was out, and the fire department ruled out arson. A passer by in another Ford Expedition told us at the site that there was a recall on the vehicle speed control switch. I looked into it on the internet and yes there is, 2000 Ford Expedition recall 05V017000 released on 27 Jan 2005. I am the second or third party owner and didn't know any thing about the recall. I reported the incident to my insurance company the next day.

While driving approximately 65 mph and coming off a ramp vehicle would not slow down when applying the brakes. Put the car in neutral the engine continued to race. It was to the point consumer thought it would seize or explode. The only way to stop the vehicle was to simply shut off the engine. There was a lot of smoke and burning coming from under the hood. The vehicle was towed to a service station but they were unable to find the cause of the problem.

On the morning of 6 Jan 2004, my kids and I were on a routine trip to the gym. This gym is only a few miles from our home. Our 2000 Ford Expedition would not accelerate and stayed at 30 mph even though I did not have the cruise control on. When I tried to stop at several residential stop signs near the gym, the Expedition would not brake and proceeded to run through the stop signs. The Expedition would not stop and stayed stuck on 30 mph. I called 911 for assistance. The operator told me to put my parking brake on, and I did. When this action did not stop the car, she suggested that I shift to a lower gear. I did, and still the Expedition would not stop. I had to drive down a steep hill without the protection of brakes. At the bottom of the hill was a traffic light at an intersection. I could not stop or slow down. I had to turn right going still 30 mph. I could only honk my horn to call the attention of oncoming cars to the fact that I was coming and that I could not stop. After making the right turn, the operator asked me if we were slowing down at all. I replied no and that the Expedition remained at 30 mph and was not slowing down. About one minute after her question, just like that, the car slowed down and stopped. The East peoria police officers (who by this time were on the scene) told me to put the car in park and I did. They drove the Expedition to the side of the street for me. It was the single most terrifying moment of my life. After the incident two separate mechanics from two different businesses concluded that the brakes were fine. My husband has contacted Ford and the local dealership. Both have denied knowing of any such previous incidents (which are clearly documented in this forum). As of today, Ford has taken neither responsibility or action. The dealership has disconnected the cruise control and will keep it next week for a couple of days to run diagnostic testing on it. Complaint by cristina pate, East peoria,
